Haiku coding sprint 2026

Hello,

FOSDEM dates have been announced: 31 january and 1st february 2026.

As we did last year (and in some previous years), we can organize a coding sprint after FOSDEM, since some Haiku devs will be around.

You can join if you work on anything Haiku related (the OS itself, writing applications, porting applications, …).

Last year there were only 5 people attending. If the numbers are similar this year, I will try to book an AirBNB where we can stay and work together. If it proves to be more popular, we may have to figure out some other options.

Usually the planning is something like:

  • Saturday and sunday: runing the Haiku stand at FOSDEM. Demonstrating Haiku, discussing with developers from other projects who want to get their software ported to Haiku or updated, with other OS developers, helping people debug booting on some machines, etc.
  • Monday to friday: quieter time with a small group of developers, working on whatever you want.

Example work from last year:

  • Porting uACPI to Haiku to experiment with replacing ACPICA (following discovering uACPI during FOSDEM)
  • Fixing some issues in USB webcam drivers
  • Improvements on USB MIDI drivers
  • GTK3 port
  • Designing new stickers and roll-up banners for Haiku stands at open source and free software events

Let me know if you’d like to join, so I can start organizing and looking for a suitable place to organize things.

If nothing gets in the way, count me in for the weekend like last year.

I’d like to attend, but can’t promise attendance yet.

Hello,

Unfortunately I won’t be able to go to FOSDEM this year. So I also won’t be organizing the coding sprint this time.

This time I may be able to attend, but no promises yet.
The distance of 514km is still, yeah, not that nice, but at least Hotels are still available for good prices currently (starting below 300 Euro from Saturday to Friday),so that may be worth it.
Given that I know a lot more about Haiku development today than I knew last year, participating at a coding sprint makes much more sense for me now.
I don’t know yet if I have to work during this week, however,so as I said,no promises.
