Haiki n00b: What are my scanner options?

Hello guys, second post, more complex than but thematically similar to the first. (Probably more useful to post queries on a package-by-package basis than to create a single thread of requests.)

I’m planning to move my netbook daily driver from Debian onto Haiku within the month, but I have no experience with the platform at all. My first query led to a useful brief about the Depot Server, which I consulted before writing this.

A search for scanner software within the DS turns up Sanity, a GUI front end for the SANE library. The same project is on GitHub. This would suggest that it’s in active development, but its GitHub hasn’t been updated in six years. Can anyone share their experiences with this package?

Hmmm, doesn’t look like anyone is bothered about scanning. We’re not ignoring you, the analog world just isn’t that interesting to us digital nomads. Okay, digital homebodies.

I had nothing to say because Sanity and SANE are indeed the way to go in most cases.

Just install it and see if it detects your scanner or not. Sanity itself is just a frontend, so it does not need a lot of updates, that explains why there is not a lot of activity in the Github repository.

Gotcha, thx guys. NP.

You can do this:

  • Use scanner/printer through email or wired/wireless. USB/USB-to-parallel/parallel was iffy.
