[GSoC 2026] Feedback on proposal(s)

Hi, just wanted feedback, if possible, on the proposals I submitted for GSoC, what was missing, and what could be improved, and reason(s) for rejection if possible.
Thank you in advance!
These were the topics:
DPS - A custom scheduler + imports of existing scheduler benchmarking tools for haiku
UFS2 Write support - Write support for the ufs2 filesystem + import of existing file system benchmarks for haiku.

Hello,

The main factor is the limited number of mentors in Haiku this year. We decided to only accept 3 students because of that.

Then it’s all about the rnaking of the different proposals.

On the one for the custom scheduler, we found the proposal to not be detailed enough about the architecture and the benefots of the approach for Haiku. When doing a custom project idea like this, these parts are more important, to convince the mentors that the project is useful and interesting for Haiku.

For the UFS one, the submitted patch was too simple, and the proposal itself seemed to focus on only the simplest task, for example excluding the possibility to create or delete files.

This resulted in ranking lower than other proposals, and since we decided to accept only 3, this one didn’t make it.

Okay, thank you! I should have included more details, yes, for the scheduler, and as for the file system, I had only kept things I could realistically have done myself within the time period.

Again, thank you for considering me!

Hello,
I want to continue contributing in btrfs this summer. But can you tell where I lack this time so I avoid that next year?

Hello,

You are in a similar situation as shan10u, near the top of the list, but limited by our mentoring capacity.

More patches (I think you submitted only one, if you look at the accepted students they have 3 or more patches with in-depth changes already merged) and maybe a little more analysis of the existing BTRFS code and the BTRFS specific algorithms may have made the difference. If you continue working on it over the year (even at slow pace), you can be ready next year with a convincing stash of patches already.
