Gobe productive 2.0 on HAIKU 32 Bit [solved]

Hi all,

I bought this software in beos/zeta times and wanted to install it now under HAIKU 32 bit. Which unfortunately aborts without error message.
I try the install from the terminal, also no error message.

It only creates the “productive” folder under “home” and that’s it.
Has anyone already tried this?

I think that most ex-users do not have access to the binaries anymore as it was commercial (contrary to what was hosted on bebits for example) so there is a very low possibility somebody else tried it.

Can it be considered abandonware?

Edit: I have taken the productive package of the Zeta “neo” and that runs. :slight_smile:

I don’t know, I bought this software reel back then. The company no longer exists and apparently the rights to the program were not resold. Therefore you could say that it is “abandonware”.
I found the software great, it was native and not too cluttered and could handle large files (>200 pages) where other software still collapses today.

I can only confirm that it still runs just fine on Haiku. I didn’t ever install it on Haiku, though, as my partition still originally stems from BeOS R5 :slight_smile:

If you want to know what it failing, try running the installation using “strace” from the Terminal. Then you can post that output to someone that is familiar with Haiku’s inner workings. Or even better, attach it to a bug report, as software that ran on BeOS should usually run on Haiku, too.

I will try your tip, I think the install routine is missing some routine and the error is not caught.

Do you use productive 2.0 in your daily work?

Not anymore; besides that I never use an office suite on a daily basis, I’ve converted most of my current documents to OpenOffice – most notably, I did my taxes with Gobe Productive until this year. While it still works nicely, I prefer to put my data in the XML based Open Document format instead of the proprietary Gobe one; the 64-bit version of Haiku already cannot run it anymore.

It’s best to put that (all of it without removal of anything) into the bug tracker. Also, it’s best to use option “-s” or even also “-t”, so that all threads/teams spawned by the Installer will produce an strace output.
It does look like the relevant parts are missing yet.

Could 32 bit Haiku (with 32 bit Software) be running as environment emulated within 64bit Haiku?

X86_64 Haiku is capable of running 32 bit binaries if the following change set is finished up:

Qemu definetely capable runing an emulated 32 bit Haiku sesson. Albeit slow.
