The FSFE (the european counter part to the Free Software Fundation) has published an open letter calling the EU to enfore device manufacturers to publish drivers sourcecode, and provide ways to unlock bootloaders and allow to install new software on older devices.
Would Haiku inc consider signing it? I think it is in line with what we’re trying to do with Haiku and some of the challenges we face.
This is all good and well, but we all know 2 things are true
They’ll throw copyright and patent law arguments at it
It actually violates certain military treaty’s regarding the security of electronics in terms of comiute power etc.
I’m all for it, I just don’t think it’ll go anywhere.
But trying won’t hurt
The letter looks quite good, would be nice if Haiku Inc would sign it indeed! Maybe the HSA could sign it aswell? (maybe the HSA is more relevant in this context even)
