I wanted to learn about that compatibility layer for (wireless) network drivers. Is there some documentation available? Where can I find that layer in the code?
Can someone please point me in the right direction?

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of documentation available. You will have to dig through mailing list archives from the summer of 2007, when Hugo Santos wrote most of it during GSoC.
… and a lot has changed since then, especially in the last few years, so whatever was written in 2007 may not apply anymore.
I’ve done the most work on the compat layer in recent years, feel free to drop by on IRC and ask me questions.
Ah, great, thanks for the info. Then I will start looking into the code and leave out the mailing lists for the time being.
