[FIXED in hrev58513] Recent app issues after upgrade Haiku Nightly 64 bit

Ahoy,

In the night I upgraded from hrev58500 to hrev58507

in the afternoon, today, I upgraded from hrev58507 to hrev58510

On both Haiku level - hrev58507 and hrev58510 - I experienced so,

if I launch Falkon and leave it, and do activities in other apps,
then after a while switch back to Falkon

then Falkon
does not render any of the pages, menus, bars, but a single color that equals with menu color
its window cannot be closed by clicking on the window closing button on the left upper corner (I used as menu disappered).
Not even Process Monitor can be invoket by using [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Del] combo.
Switcher also does not work.
Only forced shutdown by pushing Power button worked.

So it seemed as Falkon crashed the OS itself.

On hrev58510 when I rebooted the PC I did a test to not launch Falkon, but only Webpositive - testing it only related to Falkon or not.

So in Webpositive I logged in Forum, I saw notification number on my account icon, but I ignored first.
I answered to posts and changed a post title successfully, so I thought everything is all right.
Then I wanted to check what notifications I got from the forum.
Then surprisingly the icon behaved as a picture as nothing happened to my click. I iterated but nothing. I clicked with right button and probed Open in another window, but only my icon appeared on the new tab…
This way I wrote above it worked like a picture image.

I then downgraded to hrev58500 - here the account icon works in Webpositive, and Falkon had not got into this strange status , but until I had typed this post it had run by any activities … now it renders menu line and bars, pages as always.

Some serious modification could happened among hrev58501-hrev58507 – at least I experienced so.

Please mark if you experience such issues to see if tickets should be opened. if it is only related to my system I wait a bit until I report it.

I can stay on hrev58500 - nothing requires at my side to upgrade further.

Thank you in advanxe -

Like #19346 (Serious mulfunction and instability with hrev58503 and 58507) – Haiku opened yesterday? If it’s the same, your case with 58500 working reduces the commit range a lot.

Thanks @madmax for this hint.

I listened a podcast until now, So I tried to look at it in TRAC, but ticketing tool again not available as I experienced recently and asked in
#haiku chat : is it web service down or not ?
It was up, but very slow - so now I do not panic …

I will check the ticket as I can reach TRAC myself again.

Finally I could reach TRAC. I red the ticket description, I can confirm I experienced the same issue - I had not shared Deskbar instability, but also experienced. I wrote about Ctrl + Alt behaviour, but I just wanted to kill Falkon invoking ProcessMonitor so I had not experienced that general stuck.

Thank you, again @madmax , I can confirm - it is the same issue.

Well, partly fixed my experiences as seems what experienced in Webpositive is independent issue.

What I experienced in Webpositive, as clicking onto login account icon on Forum page and happens nothing … it is alive for me on hrev58500 as well. However when I downgraded it had worked.

EDIT 01:

Restarted Webpositive - still does not work.

:EDIT 02 :

After a Haiku restart - it works again… Strange. i will carefully monitor it.

Things seem a lot better now with 58517 - will watch its behavior, but Iceweasel seems to behave better now.

i can confirm the issues with Iceweasel and Falkon seem to be solved as of hrev58517. Unfortunately, Genio does not start yet. For the sake of clarify, this happens with the dev branch not with the R3.1 on the depot, our users should not worry about this.
We might have introduced a bug that was unveiled or exacerbated by the recent nightly releases.

I’m using Genio 3.1.9-dev and it’s working fine - I’m on latest main as of now. What error do you get?

Ahoy @grexe and @Nexus-6 ,

I just installed hrev58517, and booted into Haiku Nightly - so no experiences yet,
I’m happy because of that … I could read your feedback here.
Thanks, browsers are important for me - sometimes cca. half of my activities happens there.

It does not start at all  it appears in the list of teams running but the main window does not show.
I’ve just got a new 1TB SSD and I’m in the process of reinstalling everything from scratch so I can rule out any issue with my current installation.

Got the same experience with the Mail app now🤔

Ah, interesting. I tried with the version on the depot and indeed it started fine. Let me know if you suspect a kernel issue, I can try to investigate if you do.

Sure that would be great, thank you.
I had the brilliant idea of replacing the SSD with a bigger one and I can’t access my old installation any longer (see this). It will take some time to get it back.

The issue was caused by a copy of a debug version of libbe.so I put in the Genio folder a while ago as I wanted to experiment with debugging Haiku classes (to no avail, I would add).
It didn’t serve the purpose but apparently it was loaded anyway so I forgot it was there until now.

Thanks for the info, the issue seems resolved now, didn’t experience it with latest nighties anymore.

This theme can be closed.

Thank you in advance.
