I try to install Haiku on my old 2002 PC, here are the specs:
Pentium 4 on 475 socket
1,5 Gig of RAM
(I can’t say the correct name of gpu right now, it’s probably Geforce4 Ti 4200)
It stuck on the rocket screen and never goes after. Enabled the debugging and fail-safe graphics mode. It stuck on this point:
(Loaded driver /boot/system/add-ons/kernel/drivers/dev/net/rtl8139)
What do I do? Booting from DVD, so I am not reallly sure if the system is stuck or just loading really slowly. All USB devices stop working after some point (NumLock does nothing), but I guess this is how Haiku works with USB devices.
Looks like some driver issue.
I recommend try enabling safe mode in the bootloader, this disables all drivers that aren’t required for the system to work, such as network.
If it works that way,you can try disabling specific drivers to see which one causes the issue.
Haiku normally boots really fast,so I’m quite sure it’s stuck and not just loading slow.
DVDs can be a bit slower than USB sticks, but Haiku should still boot faster than any other modern OS.
It worked. Thanks a lot, but how do I disable specific drivers? In the “Disable components” it says that this image doesn’t supports it. (Asking just for future usage)
Disable components is exactly what I meant.
Maybe it needs a writable device to work,I never tried it with a DVD.
Or it could be a issue with the Beta5 ISO,I never tried that (upgraded all computers from Beta4 or Nightlies)
Hello. You can try booting into safe mode as you already did and install from there in your disk. After is installed, you could permanent disable the problematic component following this guide:
If you boot with fail-safe video driver (instead of “safe-mode”), you are able to boot successfully? Because this could point to the video driver as the source of the problem.
