Are there any video cards that have 2D acceleration for Haiku right now? Trying to drive Haiku at a res just a tiny bit higher than 1920x1080 without it slowing down. Sorry if this has been asked already - wasn’t able to find any posts about it.
No because 2d acceleration has been disabled, though some overlays are available.
IIRC, the reason was that it is not worthy; understand slower than software in most case.
The code in app server is still there but unmaintained so you would have to compile Haiku yourself and to have an old video card to benefit of it. It was only implemented in old drivers i.e Matrox and old nVidia cards of same era.
I have such a resolution and it seems fine to me, is it signifantly noticeable? It would be nice if you could open a ticket for this.
What resolution are you running?
My monitor only does 1920x1080 or 3840x2160 and no in between resolutions. At 4k it’s just too slow to use with my current setup. 1080 is good but sometimes it’s hard organize windows.
1920x1200, I think some other devs are using a 4K resolution though.
I use a 4K resolution and the speed is more than acceptable here. Seems strange that it would be too slow…
The display of the 2009 ThinkPad on which I have Haiku installed has a native resolution of 1920x1200, and I haven’t had any issues with any kind of slowdown or lag. Unfortunately I don’t have any guesses as to what could be causing such an issue, especially since I don’t have a 4K monitor to test with, but I’ll be interested to see if a culprit is found, and what it might be.
What is your graphics driver? Have you tried vesa or framebuffer drivers?
I’m using the radeon_hd driver. No haven’t tried either of those yet.
