Emulation on Haiku

I’ve just tried https://play.webrcade.com and it’s working really fine through Falkon.

If you own some roms, you can also play your favorite console games

What’s the point though? Haiku already has many emulators and I don’t think browser emus have the best user experience. However it’s cool that it works.

Mmm do you experience a good emulator under Haiku for retrograming ? I didn’t find one working fine so far but I might miss it.

Ok finally EmulationStation + retroarch + snes9x_libreto is making possible to play SNES games like super bomberman

For the moment the sound is missing, except that the games are fluid and working fine (60 FPS).

If someone succeed to have sound or gamepad working for SNES with RetroArch, any advice is welcome

Hello! If you are on Haiku 64 bit, I suggest installing Mednafen emulator:

Haiku Depot Server (haiku-os.org)

I was using an older version that is still compatible with 32-bit version and works really well. It’s support both joystick and sound and can emulate most of the 8- and 16-bit consoles. Is a bit hard to configure (is a CLI application), but believe me, is worth the effort.

About the joystick, I was using a Logitech F310 (wired). It worked perfectly fine under Haiku & Mednafen.

Ok with a bit a configuration, I’ve got Retroarch working with sound and the gamepad.

I’ve used Emulation Station (ES-DS) to facilitate a bit the setup.

did you hear about jmednafen? have you tried it?

Hello @mazbrili
JMednafen? Never heard about it. Do you have a link? I search it but did not find anything.

here JMednafen download | SourceForge.net

Haven’t checked with a rom or anything, but launches fine  (seems pretty dead though, last release from 2012?)

Mednafen’s configuration file is easy to modify. You can also set the file associations to mednafen. Then you can just double-click on a rom and launch it.

JMednafen is indeed obsolete. It doesn’t seem to know about any new emulation cores, or that reading a disc directly is no longer supported.

Is working with SNES Nintendo emulator just fine! There is BeSNES and ZSNES for BeOs and HAIKU!

No need for bloated and slow RetroArch!

someone talk other fronted gui before Mednaffe frontend GUI for Mednafen

Already 2 years ago, time passes so fast

Got VICE working on Haiku without too much trouble, compiled native. Seems to work as well as it does on other platforms. Got CP/M to boot on the C128 emulator, running on Haiku…now that’s a retro stack right there.

Mmm these are for Haiku 32 bits ? I don’t see these packages on haiku depot for 64 bits.

By the way even if Retroarch is not always easy to configure and need some improvements on the gamepad part for Haiku, it has a nice netplay feature so that you can join other players to play on your LAN or over internet.

I have tested an Apple TV hosting the Bomberman server (player 1) on my LAN where I can connect via Retroarch on Haiku for the player 2.

The Haiku retroarch sometimes lag a bit (network issue?) but it’s working fine with the netplay

I haven’t tested yet Haiku retroarch as the game host, but it should work fine too.

ES-DE (not yet officially available for Haiku) needs also some improvements as the rendering of the fonts/picture before launching the games/roms is not working fine.
