Due to inactivity, I will discontinue my forum

I am going to shut down my form at haikushell.net very soon and probably just use the vps for other things and due to the lack of activity, including the muscle server but i’m going to reuse it for something else and if you’re curious for what that is d m me

Sad to see the forum go offline after only a few months
I looked into it every few days, but you’re right,it really lacked activity, only like one post every few weeks.
Seems to be difficult to start a successful community nowadays.
By the way,I also tried in June and the number of posts in my forum is near zero :frowning:

I think there is a need for announcement of such Haiku fan sites on this forum.
Of course, each site can have is own thread, like Desktop on fire or Haiku Insider have but, a thread that would collect all links in one place would really help. Perhaps community page on Haiku website could be enhanced as well.

There was a announcement thread, but it was more focused on the BeShare server than the forum:

Also, there’s a Wiki page listing many unofficial sites related to Haiku, but Haiku Shell wasn’t added there:

We have a list of community sites on the haiku website, stuff like that can be added there

There are probably too much informations on the website. Even if it is well organized, people tend to not dig more than two or three links deep. When they dare, they’re easily overwhelmed.
Nowadays, there are also a lot of people coming on the forum without visiting the website. I don’t want to know where they downloaded their iso from. For me, software is like water, better and safer at the source.

I also have a little external links page. PM me if you’d like to have a link there.

It’s very hard to start communities, I can tell you that

Or maybe instead of taking it down i could just change the form software cause I kind of don’t like it now

This is where the community and forum is and that is probably as it should be.

Small communities need consolidation more than fragmentation.

The Muscle server could still be useful to the community. ( I use BeShare all the time..)

There’s an update that adds many features, like a more traditional account system.
Or what do you dislike about it?

Agreed. There already is a community: here.

No reason to start another one. I don’t understand the reason why you would add fragmentation.

Don’t be so negative guys. There are places for new communities.
In a sense, with Gerrit and mailing lists, devs already have their own, in addition of the forum.
In the same spirit, you could have a community dedicated to gaming on Haiku.
Hugs are also useful communities, usually focused on a country or a region, they can organize small events, allow people to meet and to communicate and so to find help in their own language.

Haiku is not well known outside of enthusiasts, only one forum is necessary, & this is it.

The aesthetics of the form are a bit eh

I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily being negative. But rather realistic. Of course it’s great if somebody opens a new forum or a new website dedicated to Haiku. But they shouldn’t be too disappointed if it doesn’t take off as they expected. The community is quite small and I’d rather have all the information in one place rather than fragmented in different places.

Maybe a better idea for a new project would be to focus on something that this forum doesn’t provide. Like a forum in a language other than English, although that might be not as helpful as in the past, with good enough AI translation services being available for free. Or on a specific topic, maybe gaming or app development.

Hearing about it for the first time…

It’s true that the community around Haiku is rather small and that you can’t expect a unofficial community site to be highly active.
On the other hand,I really love these community projects.
They show that someone cares enough about Haiku to buy a domain, buy a server or hosting and put in some work to create a website/forum/whatever.
