For keeping the BeOS dream alive we should be awake on the birthday, but since the delay is part of Haiku’s DNA I will come back in the next few days to dream of an even nominal progress and delude myself or dream a little more.
As they admit they had to resort to an unofficial source to be sure that there was an ignored recurrence on the project site:
I ask you a favor, if there should be unforeseen funerals let me know, I haven’t used BeOS for a long time and I only look for Haiku sporadically during the summer to see if something happens, but this year from July 18 to August 18 (and beyond) there is nothing and not even nothing knows how to advance in this deafening silence.

Well, I guess it would have been part of the august Haiku activity report.
Regarding the lack of progress, I guess you miss the call to help testing Beta 6 release candidate, which is by definition progress.
The forum is not the best place to see what happens to Haiku codebase, and therefore to see what’s coming next or soon. The list of merged changes is. And then the montly activity reports.
Last but not least, the liveness of the Haiku platform is not just the liveness of the Haiku core OS. It’s also what happens to new apps ported, new apps developped, new versions of apps, etc. And on that topic, it was not silent that much these last months.
But, sure, it’s possible, like an old lady (as said someone in the forum), Haiku project is no more that vocal about turning one year older
Philippe, please, if you want to communicate with people who visit the Haiku website, you don’t necessarily have to go through the forum; just look at how often I visit it.
Haiku can’t be my operating system; we’re not in the '90s with BeOS. Once the nostalgia thing is over, I’ll go back to using something else; I like to be honest.
As I said, the Haiku website is posting a monthly activity report.
It’s also publish on the forum under the blog category, but even if one never visit the forum, the default webpage of the website is “activity”, with latest changes merged and latest news (currently, GSoC reports along the monthly activity report).
Give one place where you can find latest changes in preparation for Windows on Microsoft website, or for macOS or iOS on Apple website ?
If you think it’s not enough to communicate with potential visitors landing on the website, may I remember that it’s a volunteers based project, everyone can volunteer to contribute, including on website communication.
I think that an aspect of BeOS that has unfortunately been lost but was attracting people is their devs unique sense of humour. It was another time and I’m not sure investors were understanding it though…
Calling a WIP project Mail Daemon Replacement may look innocent when you don’t speak French but still a good example of self-deprecation once shorten to MDR.
MDR is French “LOL” equivalent and stands for « Mort de rire », literally “Dead of laughing”.
Well, the beta 6 release will be in a few days. We tried to synchronize it perfectly with the birthday, but quality checks and final touches are rore important than shipping on the exact day here.
