I’d like to start translating Haiku into Latin, so I have made an account on Pootle. What is next?
I add “lat - Latin” to Pootle, make you the one and only language manager (and probable user
), and you can start. What I’m not sure of is how Haiku will support Latin numbering, like icon size: “IIL x IIL”… ![]()
it took me a few seconds to realize it is 48x48…
What about a special conversion method which takes an integer and returns a string?
All this would bring a shiny new line for haiku marketing: “haiku: the OS Ceasar would have used”
I doubt we’ll add extra code for the Latin translation… unless the Pope diverts some coin from the collection plate… ![]()
If you’re asking seriously, the Latin translation will be using regular arabic numerals.
Cop out! ![]()
Nah, I was joking. I do wonder though if our Locale prefs / ICU can support Latin.
On https://i18n.haiku-os.org/pootle/lat/, it’s been saying this ever since you added it:
Some data on this page is currently being calculated, and the page will be refreshed automatically in 29 seconds . Refresh now
I don’t see anything in ICU for that. It looks like, despite all other differences between languages, everyone else agrees on using base 10 with pretty much the same rules, and variations of separators and digit characters are enough in most cases.
