Built-in Mail App - notification error

Hey All,

I used the built in Mail app and when I get a notification the page/reading pane/window is just raw html code. Is there some system setting that needs to be addressing to make it more readable?

Thanks ahead of time.

Fritz

The built-in Haiku mail application doesn’t support HTML emails yet,it can only display plain text.
There were some experiments with integrating a lightweight HTML engine, litehtml, see here: Updated liblitehtml port for possible Mail app integration
That’s not yet integrated into Haiku, however, and I don’t know if it will ever be.

That email (for some reason) is detected as a normal email but the content (the line mimetype text/html) suggests that may be a parsing error.

Either the sending email client fucked up badly or we have a parsing failure on our end. Mail will not normally show html emails inline, it will instead give a link to the content (that you can then open in another app)

Hey Nipos,

I went down the rabbit hole of forums via the litehtml chain. Unfortunately, it (0.9-1 March of this year) didn’t make any difference on my build (hrev57939+129). I reread as much as I can, but that sure did go all over the place!

Yes. You’d have to look at the intact original email - header and all body parts as transmitted, still in CRLF, quoted-printable etc., to get any idea what went wrong.

In the meantime I found a better solution than liblitehtml by using PlutoBook, but the mail parsing is the biggest challenge.

I will work this into BeMail after the SEN preview is finally out, along with a completely revamped Ghost powered website that’s almost done now🤓

That PlutoBook library seems interesting. Perhaps missing few things here and there but, development is active and it’s already impressive.

I got some prototype for a HTML view (updated from liblitehtml) for integration into BeMail, will tackle this soon over the holidays…
