Bounty for Intel GMA 3150 support

Hello:

Earlier, I mentioned that I am going to do a tutorial video series for Haiku starting in late September. I really need a working intel_extreme driver that properly detects and fully utilizes the GMA 3150 chipset. For this, I am prepared to offer a $100 dollar bounty to whoever adds support for this video chipset. Other than that glaring issue, I have the perfect PC I am going to use to demo Haiku. Normally I would be sated with just settling with VESA drivers, but since I am using a widescren display and plan on doing some advanced tricks, I need an accelerated driver. Any possibility we can make this happen and soon? Thank you!

Please provide listdev output for your display controller (video card) only. Are you using gcc2 or gcc4 build of Haiku? Desktop? What Atom model?

If I get this working, then the money can be donated to Haikuware (new 3D bounty or maybe other new bounty?).[/quote]

I’ll give this a stab in a few days once I get the system all assembled. For the record, I intend on using the latest nightly or Alpha 3 GCC2 hybrid builds (whichever one comes first). The processor in question is a Dual Core Atom D510. If you somehow manage to get it fixed, the money will go directly to Haiku, Inc. instead.

By the way, what is the command I need to execute to get the listdev info for the graphics chip? Thanks.

EDIT: I managed to procure the info needed from listdev. Here is the output for the GMA 3150…

device Display controller (VGA compatible controller, VGA controller) [3|0|0]
vendor 8086: Intel Corporation
device a001: N10 Family Integrated Graphics Controller

Please talk to Karl at Haikuware

He can manage the bounties

Ok, I will get the driver to recognize your hardware. I have to change 3 different files. I will provide you with binary (driver, acclerant, agp) to test and code changes afterwards so you can compile your own or file ticket. That way Axel can make the proper changes.

It will be more of a hack to test out. The intel_extreme driver was coded by Axel and he is pretty much the only developer with the knowledge to update and fix it. The driver very likely will work with your hardware since it supports the GMA 3100 and GMA 3150 is similar to it.

There is support even for GM45. Axel(?) (or another developer) owns a motherboard with that video chipset so he(?) added it in.

I was going to guess vendor id: a002 from link above because that lined up with the D510.

Donate to Haiku Inc is ok, it can be $100 or any amount you believe is fair.

I’m a little worried with comment 20 & attachment above it because I have not tested recent Haiku image on my Desktop (with Atom330) since I mostly use my laptop now to see if the driver still works for me.

Just a thought:
You might want to contact Axel directly first to see if he will do this for you for bounty money. It saves any extra work from me and gets the money directly into Axel’s hands for coding the Intel driver.

I won’t do anything for a couple of days anyways so will let you think about that.

FYI, there’s already a ticket for 8086:a001, http://dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/6202.

Ah bummer. I go to install Haiku to my hard drive, only to be greeted by a PANIC after several minutes. I tried changing the BIOS settings to emphasize compatibility but to no avail. This time, I am going to buy an Intel Atom D510 motherboard (Intel brand) so that no surprising third party mobo changes sneak in.

Guru

File a ticket for the PANIC and attach screenshot to it. That way will have a better idea of what is causing the crash for you.

Buying Intel brand does not mean it will work. Could be a Haiku issue. Have you tried with both Alpha 1 and Alpha 2? These are more stable versions of Haiku.

Yes. I have tried both alpha and nightly releases and I still get the same problem. Doesn’t matter too much now as the motherboard sorta just seized up and I need to get a replacement anyway. I’ll keep y’all posted.
