"beware of the duck!"

I was curious, is it an Easter egg of a process in Vision?

Vision names all it’s thread in a random name, apparently this was a bit common in BeOS days, but it makes debugging harder and Haiku has basically stopped this practice otherwise.

Oh, I see. That is definitely interesting

Not really, some threads have fun names but are rarely random. As far as I know, only Vision does that, and it still prefixes the threads with a letter indicating what they are, so I don’t see why that would make debugging harder. Would it be easier if all the threads were just named “thread?”

No, but if every app does this it makes it harder than having descriptive names that don’t require prior knowledge

Good thing it’s not done for the app menu:

apps ==>

  • wHonking Big Nose
  • eSlight of build
  • xFishsticks boiled, not fried
