You think you’ve seen everything and then you come across a mastodon post Interesting concepts that obviously didn’t make it into BeOS back then:

I vaguely remember there being a linux “beos” theme back in the day that looked similar to the redesign, too. somewhere in the gtk2 era.
Am I happy it was never implemented, so much wasted space to have some piece stick out of the tab.
Some things there look interesting, some look weird, and some look really bad.
Err the BeOS redesign? A lot of this happened. The window frame for sure. I have a pre release version for PowerPC where this is the theme. The buttons and widgets were mostly there, though the combos look different.
I think that was Blue Eyed OS?
What version should have been that once released?
BeOS R5 was Maui, while R6 was supposed to be Dano. The hacked/leaked Dan0 used by Zeta was 5.1, not the unfinished R6. You can see these window decorators on Zeta screenshots.
TIL there existed a PowerPC build of the Dano codebase.
5.1d0 aka (EXP) Dano. Dan0 never existed
Yeah common error. It was dano/0 in some internal strings just as R5 was maui/0.
Who knows? The PowerPC version of BeOS was abandoned by this point and I guess someone internally built it. It is mostly Dano, but has a weird pre R5 kernel interface and the network stack is still netserver. It is not R5 though as it has the same types of bugs that Dano has with messaging and the Input server. And more bugs to do with screen redraw.
The theme is baked in. I did try to switch it once, but the way you could do it in Dano doesn’t seem to have been finished in this version.
I don’t think R6 would have ever been released. By the point Be Inc folded, BeOS was only really the platform to develop BeIA on. A lot of the changes, like Binder, were for BeIA.
