After the update (Walter), to the Hrev59048 version (or similar), the multimedia settings on the front Headphones (output) automatically place to mute, so the sound disappears through the headphones.
(I didn’t change anything in the multimedia settings myself…)
…when setting unmuted — sound works again.
Probably a regression in a driver. Make sure to report it with all available details on the bug tracker.

I’ll have to investigate this a bit more… I was hoping someone else might have experienced this as well. I took a look at Haiku source activity, and it seems like nothing has been done with the HD audio driver, the media server, or the media settings app.
“just” boot an older state before the update and see if the issue is solved. If it is open a ticket, naming both revisions or if you want the full list of packages in each state. Nothing more is required for a ticket, if it differs between those two states report that, you don’t need to track down the cause before reporting it

I found the culprit: hrev59045 (haiku-master-hrev59045-x86_64-anyboot.iso) — I booted from a USB flash drive.
I tried later versions and one earlier one (…43) — everything is fine there.
So, after launching hrev59045, I launched the multimedia settings, and found “Front Headphones” muted, after a few moments the media addon server crashed and threw an error, I saved the report. What is interesting, after restarting the multimedia services, the “Front Headphones” mute check mark was removed and everything worked fine (sound from the headphones).
I guess that when I got that (hrev59045) update, I didn’t use the headphones for a while and noticed that there was no sound only after the hrev59048 update, also, probably that “Front Headphones” mute remained set further (after 59045). So, system reboots to previous states didn’t help restore the sound, good thing I checked the multimedia settings (that’s how I found muted Front Headphones).

I tried running hrev59045 again from the USB flash drive (reflashed), this time the Front Headphones were not muted and the media addon server did not hang, so it was some random thing…
