Unfortunately, that wasn’t it (also, I already was on “EUR”). The site says “Only for donations to SEPA countries”, so it appears to be really not possible to donate to the US based Haiku Inc. via bank transfer. @nipos, can you give a ballpark number on the fees per donation via credit card?
BTW, there’s another account at Liberapay called just “Haiku”, without the “.inc”, sporting the “official” Haiku 2D-H-icon. “Haiku.inc” - with the “unofficial” 3D-H-icon - appears to be a team-member of it. I guess donations to either reach Haiku Inc.? A bit confusing, something that should be avoided when it comes to transferring money… @kallisti5 et.al., any chance to remove one of those?
I don’t pay any fees for the credit card donations at all.
My credit card (American Express) only charges for transactions in other currencies, but the Liberapay payment is done directly in Euro.
Likely Haiku Inc. receives a bit less than I give, but that’s not something you have to worry about - there won’t be excessive fees charged from your account.
The fee that’s taken from the paid amount seems to usually be between 1.5 and 3.5%,so the biggest portion should arive at Haiku.

That is not an organization but a team. It was set up before Haiku inc joined Liberapay and allowed donations to be distributed directly to some developers who were accepting donations on Liberapay.
Now all the developers are not accepting such donations anymore and it all goes to the inc again, since it is the only member of that “team” accepting donations.
It seems I can’t delete it, but I have marked it as hidden from search results for now.
Are founds being spend, besides of architect. infrastructure, on meaningfull things?.. I mean path for functioning audio drivers or API improvement and refactoring it is only matter of time focus. I would love to see 10 000$ from donations being spend for this modernisation u know… something for “all-side” benefit
The biggest part of the donations is spent on the full-time contract for waddlesplash who has done major improvements to the whole system over the past years.
Audio drivers are working on a growing number of devices, recently even USB audio devices thanks to his work.
Besides that, general hardware support and driver compatibility is becoming better and better, also most Wifi drivers now work out of the box without issues.
Multiple parts of the kernel have been optimized and refactored to improve the system performance.
You can see how the money is spent in the financial reports here: Documents - Haiku, Inc. and the technical news in the monthly activity reports.
So, some history on our crypto donations since this whole thing is near and dear to my heart.
Haiku, Inc. started accepting crypto donations in the early days via coinbase (I didn’t set it up, another Inc. member did). This was probably circa 2010-2011.
We had a few Bitcoin donations (while bitcoin was <$100/per btc)
Haiku, Inc. quietly sat on those Bitcoin and ignored them.
The market took off to the ever eye-watering prices of today.
Coinbase quietly added “Institutional accounts” (aka company accounts)
We sat on our pile of bitcoin for a rainy day.
Coinbase wanted the “social security number” for the person who owned our account for tax purposes.
Us: It pre-existed institutional accounts on Coinbase.
Coinbase: Confused pikachu. It’s not an institutional account. We need your social security number.
We have been circling between 7 and 11 for the last few years. Every few years we start the request to “convert” our account with the hopes that someone at Coinbase will listen. Nobody is willing to take on the federal tax burden of “withdrawing our crypto” to move accounts. (plus, we’re a not-for-profit… that’s polluting our financial account ownership)
In summary. Until the Coinbase mess is sorted out, we’re not too excited about crypto.
Personal Feelings: As a personal statement on my feelings, I love the idea of crypto and was an early adopter. However in my eyes investors have ruined what crypto can be. eth gas prices through the roof mean contracts aren’t worth the effort. Bitcoin’s astronomical and wildly changing price means it’s not super useful as a daily instrument of value. Crypto at this point is essentially a “stock”, and Haiku doesn’t need to play in the stock market.
I think once we can get Coinbase fixed, we should take the funds there and split them between our fiat USD and EUR holdings.
Coinbase is infamous for its terrible customer support. I assume the transfer operations are locked until the issue with Coinbase is solved, right? Because otherwise you could have opened a different wallet on behalf of Haiku Inc. outside of Coinbase and transfer all of the crypto there.
I couldn’t agree more with that statement and your Personal Feelings overall.
