Ahoy Haikunauts !
You may be surprised …
Why am I putting a developer again from C language/UNIX era of Bell Labs to this community ?
Well, the answer is simple. The monolithic transformation from analog to digital was led by this interesting institution. It worked as a university - without students. Its ‘parent’ was a monopol firm in the US, an they worked on scientific areas that connected to communication - as beeing a telephony conglomerate : from local to interstates. Now you know it as AT&T, and that is just parts of it that Bell Systems was. There are several videos about the transition, I would not waste characters on it - here, in this post.
I suggest to watch the video for those who write and read the dispute here about applying AI - really LLMS actually, as what is AI … changed a lot (in theory too) from the 1950’s years (when first came up as idea) to today very much --, that you may hear from Brian Kernighan from a simple, not highlighted mention, as why he went where and when -
Have a good time listening this conversation !
(I think - it’s instructive.)
