Interesting.. I wonder how much work ipp + pwg-raster would be on their own. It might be a quick way to better support modern printers

You can upvote Making sure you're not a bot! if not already done. It’s in the top most voted tickets already, and should cover support for Airprint and IPP Everywhere printers.

Nonetheless, Hamrick seems to be able to work with a lot of scanners. Not cheap, though.

I tried to upvote it, but wasn’t able to.

My scanner has an HTTP interface where I can just do a few clicks in a browser and get a JPEG or PDF file. So, driver-less operation is possible at least in some cases.

VueScan is the only paid product on my main machine and it’s worth it.

Interesting to note that their approach is to ignore OS support and build their reverse-engineered drivers directly into their own product. That’s old-school!

And being old-school, it works!
