Thanks @brunobastardi ! The main bug fix is just that a new user of 2.3.0 with no saved settings would see a black canvas.

Big thanks to everyone who has supported ArtPaint by adding translations. Unfortunately we had a minor mishap with this release and didn’t get the new translations in, but we are hard at work on some new features and will definitely make sure the next release has them!

ArtPaint 2.4.0 was released today! Thanks to @humdinger as always for updating the documentation, translations, and pushing the release!

Also huge thanks to everyone who contributed translations - we have a number of new languages including Friulian, Japanese, and Swedish.

I didn’t have a chance to make a new image to celebrate the release, but notable feature include:
lots of work on the Layers window:

  • It is now responsive to font sizing.
  • The layer transparency is now a slider in the window so it’s easier to access.
  • Layers can now be named
  • Layers support blend modes

Also the Colors window was reworked:

  • responsive to font sizing and is resizable
  • made CMY into the more standard CMYK
  • removed YuV and YIV modes and replaced with the more standard Lab color mode
  • added a hex value field

Aside from that there were a handful of bug fixes and stability improvements. Please give it a try and as always if you find bugs or have feature requests file them on GitHub.

Enjoy!

Thats pretty cool. I loved it back in the early days and I still think its for lot of use cases still a very good software.

ArtPaint 2.5 is being released today!

This release mainly focused on user experience, with lots of little changes to make ArtPaint more pleasant to use. For example, you can now press ESC to cancel any manipulator, ENTER is the same as clicking OK, DEL deletes a selection, and holding SPACE lets you pan around the image like other image editing tools.

Crop and resize were revamped with easier-to-see handles for manipulation, and they now draw outside of the canvas area:

You can also actually Scale selections now!

Holding SHIFT now locks the aspect ratio for crop, resize, and scale as well as rectangle and ellipse drawing, and holding ALT centers the shape on your cursor.

A lot of work was put into improving Selection, with a new Elliptical selection, and a menu item to select all non-transparent pixels in a layer, so you can select a complicated shape with one click:

Freehand and intelligent scissors were also improved, and now there’s a “Select All” option for getting the entire canvas.

The menus were reorganized to make them more intuitive, and some GUIs were made more consistent and simpler.

…and more - see the CHANGELOG for full details.

Thanks to @humdinger for being my UX consultant, QA tester, and much more - his help is always invaluable. Also thanks as always to the translators who have to react to all these changes to keep ArtPaint localized, your efforts are hugely appreciated! We have two new translations in 2.5, Australian English and Latin American Spanish.

Cheers,
Dale

Got a checksum error trying to upgrade x64 version on nightly… Could be coming from the problem with buildbots?

Sorry, I don’t know anything about that… @humdinger , do you know?

Not sure what’s issue either. I did a revision bump of the recipe to trigger a new run of the buildbots. Unfortunately, the buildbots appear to be MIA again: “All builders lost”

I saw @waddlesplash tweaking the package description recently as well, to trigger a re-build - though I always thought you needed a revision bump for a rebuild…

Now the 64bit package seems to have made it through as well.
Have a try and post your masterpieces!
