The Killer Haiku Application

It’s crude because it doesn’t test very much, there’s a lot more to multi-threaded performance than this. Unless you actually are buying a system to run HandBrake all the time, in which case who can argue.

I suggested that you measure only because you asserted that Haiku could and should compete by being faster at running multi-threaded software. That only makes sense if Haiku actually is significantly faster.

In *Tube/Vimeo days (and upcoming commercial UGC-IPTVs - check out Google TV | All in one smart TV streaming platform) this is not exact: more and more users are involved/interested in video editing, so the userbase of a ‘NLE-oriented OS’ would be very large (not only: an efficient OS - that allows users to take advantage even of their “old” PCs - can be even more attractive).

Vegas can’t be (and will be never) ported to any other platform than Windows 'cause it heavily relies on MS .NET Framework (but it’s also the reason 'cause it’s so stable and performative): it was just an example, of course.

BTW, everyone certainly would prefer an open source alternative (maybe Lightworks [ http://www.lightworksbeta.com/ ] or - even better, IMHO - its libraries backend [ Lightworks Video Editor Review 2021 - Lightworks Video Editor Review 2021 | Download Pro ] ?), but I clearly understand that’s not easy as it seems - especially with the Linux development model (that favors the devs’ forces dispersion over features’ multiplication).

Well, that’s the main problem of a general-purpose oriented os: lack of specific optimizations…
