Successfully used a hi-fi DA converter for audio playback from Haiku

As there is no category for audio DA converters in the Besly hardware compatibility database I thought I’ll leave a post here that connecting a CEC DAC DA53 via USB worked.
After setting the audio input and output to USB in Media>Audio Settings, I was able to use the DAC to record audio to SoundRecorder with an electret-condenser microphone, and to use a headphone to listen to audio playback in high fidelity sound.
For haiku users whose sound cards do not work with Haiku, possibly a practical work around?

Nice sound card! Just read a review, it cost around 1200 euro’s in 2005 I read. wow. Looks like high-end, but still UAC1 (USB Audio class 1) I think. UAC2 cards I am guessing are still not supported. (?)

Thank you for linking an interesting review of the DAC! I think that in Japan, it cost less than half of that. But it makes me think that these days you could very easily pay the same amount for a smartphone which might last only 5 years or so…

Interesting observation about UAC1 and UAC2. I don’t know much about how these affect the sound quality. Does it mean that if UAC2 works on Haiku it will allow hi-res audio to be played back?

Of course, the sort of music I listen to probably won’t benefit too much from hi-res file formats…
