[SOLVED] R1B5 x86_64 -- Replicants/progs issues -- the moving knobs ( also frames, where earlier presented ) are missing

Ahoy Haikunauts,

After long time not visited my Beta5 install, I found strange situation.

The install itself on latest level : hrev57937 + 129, so I could not resolve by installing latest release.

I do not think this is general issue as then someone already reported it - at least I could not find related ticket. Maybe I was not enough smart to find the exact keyword to my problem, but I had not found a ticket that would explicitly describes this replicant issue.

All the repliicants on my desktop

and

at its original program / applets

the displayed layout miss the usual little knobs that you can grab

and move the replicants by them.

Also frames are missing where there were presented earlier.

As it is missing at apps as well - drop replicants and re-create them also not possible.

There is only Workspaces where right click menu at least offers to remove the replicant.

As the moving knobs are not available .. the usual removing process : to drag & drop them into the Trash – does not work as well.

However as the knobs are missing at apps/applets as well .. it is not a problem at all : you cannot drag them onto desktop again. :joy:

If I was just not enough smart to find the appropriate ticket - please accurate this for me.

Also, if this issue appears only for me.

Thank you in advance for helping me out at this issue – :chocolate_bar:

Kind regards, :cowboy_hat_face:

Should be an option in the Tracker or Desktop configuration, named “show replicant” or something like that (not in Haiku at this moment). Confirm that this option is enabled.

Thanks

okidoki, I check it.

EDIT :

OOOOKaaay, … I finally found it -

IT was the root cause … dunno when I clicked on it accidentally.

What can I do if this knob got out from viewing ?

On nightly the Network applet replicants knob is not visible anymore - it is placed in the same right bottom corner.

After I launched nightly in this Dell M6800 the desktop falled back to smaller resolution than Full HD.

When I resized back here to FHD, then the knob got out from visible area of the desktop.

Unfortunately the User guide about Replicants writes

A right-click on a Replicant handle offers a context menu to show the originating app’s About window and to Remove replicant.

It is correct only for some applets / apps – it is not general at all. There’s more

¤ which has no context menu at all :

About Haiku, Clock demo applet, Sound volume meter applet, Weather applet, WordClock applet

¤ has context menu, but nothing as Remove replicant

ActivityMonitor, for example

Try this app: Misc Haiku utilities and ports - Browse /repliman at SourceForge.net

Tried it once, it’s not the thing that you will use every day but that you’re glad to have handy when you need it.
I think that when you are near an edge of the screen the handle should move. For example, if you put the replicant in bottom right corner of the screen, the handle of this replicant should be in top left. The same replicant in top left corner of the screen would have it’s handle in bottom right.

Thank you - I will try out next, I’m on Linux actually.

For today (and whole 3 last days as well ) … it was a bit too much for Haiku times – fighting fiercly with 32 bit Beta installation from DVD and finally from USB to USB installation and known issue with not bootable installations - AFTER Installer reported all has DONE.
Seriously lately I get so much frustration of it , however I have a bad temper : I must resolve the issues … I’m so stubborn.

This way now I had took care myself and moved to Linux daily and there - stay on secure SW level. :cowboy_hat_face:

I’m just visiting back

okidoki, I may reboot into Nightly on this weekend, to check out both methods.

thanks.

Unfortunately it had not worked me - the opposite side knob was not available - it hads not seen so it was impossible to grab.

As far as I moved the mouse in the bottom left corner as I could, but as you knot the knob itself shold be grapped, not someone near - it is really annoying - so it was unsuccessful, I just toggled the network replicant’s menu : again and again.

Also there is no a button that would highlight the replicant or somehow toggle into moving using an alternate button.

Well, seems I already downloaded Repliman from you once on 9th of December, 2024 - also was already installed, I just had not used and forgot about it.

Now I tried out, and worked like charm.

Honestly once I got a shell script to backup / restore replicants, and I have used those scripts.

Now I had not missed them, but one of them misaligned and were no possible to move.

With precisely removed and recreated the one and only Desktop item – I’m grateful. :beer_mug:

Thanks @michel - for packaging, providing the app, and sharing/mentioning.

It would be great a repo for your stuff you have on a non clicking, but typing/reading UI like another repos.

However I understand storage costs and administering it - like service availability and so on .. so free is the best. Free from costs and free from daily administering

What a pity the offer from Poland guy from years ago were never became a fruitution as

nor

Haiku repos - as repo signature validation had not finished, so no Haiku/Haikuports were setup in Poland

neither

generated Haiku install images hosting in Poland / Europe were setup.

This is silently faded away. However storage capacities was offered - if I understood well then - for free, as a kind of donation to Haiku community.

You misunderstood me, moving handles isn’t a feature implemented. It’s a wish that I have to avoid this problem. Because Haiku allows you to replicate your desktop on another machine and then resolution changes are expected.

Ah, ok – I really did so.

I use more Haiku on USB thumbdrives, and when I move between machines I generally experience resolution changes, when desktop renders to too huge replicants as Haiku first sets to a smaller resolution - might be to have a safe picture on the different VGA than it was before – generally 1024 x 768 – and also when I activate workspaces the higher resolution always just there on the active worspace - I was generally surprised when I switched first to another one and that was still 1024 x 768 …

This way I started to pimp my installer/recovery partiton to have my minimal favourite settings already set in it !.. Unfortunately it is still 1.4 GB in any case as I can just “install” Haiku on a thumbdrive with dd command or last time with Balena Etcher (32 bit Haiku)

To install a bootable Haiku from within Haiku was possible only in a short period in Beta4. And for once. Since then I always run into non-bootable installs. I started to be suspicious

if it is something in USB mass storage or ATA/SATA command handling in Haiku that prevents it.

Honestly I still had not tried to install Haiku onto a HDD or SSD, so I may surprise myself if that would be successful without a hiss.

I assume dd command works under that layer and also copy onto a whole disk not a partition,

If it is Drivesetup yet, as the ticket in the Beta6 queue, than it does not handle well partitons on a USB drive in all aspects - but before I decide : me myself should do a probation with an internal drive.

Connect to a TV or bigger Monitor might be a solution.
