Some time ago I asked the members of this forum how to get rid of the hissing noise emanating from the line-out/headphone jack of my onboard sound chip on Dano/Zeta.
And wouldn’t you know it? Haiku saves the day
Rename or move the generic ich_ac97 driver
Install Haiku’s auich driver and multi_audio addon. (new mixer if wanted) They’ll be installed locally in your home folder, so no risk of overwriting anything
— I’m using the ones from http://jerome.duval.free.fr/obos/, the latest from CVS should also work, yes?
Reboot and now you’ll be able to lower your Master and PCM volume from max (!) to more normal levels

If you want, try the Haiku build factory jam packages located here:
Unfortunately the build factory’s drivers won’t work…
The multi_audio.media_addon on Haiku is named hmulti_audio.media_addon and changing the name or linking to it does no good. Zeta doesn’t detect the auich or new mixer either. I reckon you’d have to replace the entire media component to Haiku’s to get it to work at all? So what is so special about Jerome’s builds then?
I’m beginning to suspect Jerome built his Haiku sound drivers especially for Zeta.

Oh, I didn’t think about it… those are probably compiled for R5, not zeta… there’s a "target platform" variable that must be set to zeta when compiling them… and I’m positive that the build factory doesn’t use it.
