SOB Server

I can’t connect to the server today (12/6/05).

Anybody else having trouble?
Is this a scheduled down time?

Yesterday was the same for me though… all day the client kept reporting “server busy”… and the website was inaccessible from both home and work.

Found a website where people all over were reporting it down. So either the server is down or it is a very local network problem.

Pity. We are starting to get close to position 29.
I put my computer on another distributed project in the meantime.
Hope to be back on SOB soon.

Well, the server is back online. I wonder what happens with all the blocks added to the queue, as my client kept writing in the console (having switched to Gentoo Linux - and haven’t configured wine yet).

Next submission should get those back to the server - it think it ends up averaging the amount complete between the first missed block and the final submission or something - cuz mine reports ~5M solid for the entire time it was out. (which is low because at least one of my machines was sitting idle waiting for a new k/n pair)

Yay, server is back up, I’m back on SOB.
Push for 29 is on again!

Hmm… position 28 before the new year?

Which brings me to that eternal question
Where’s Minbari?

We miss him

Wine? You mean run the windows version of SoB in wine? Why would you do that…just for the GUI? I don’t really see that being worth it, especially 'cause you’ll probably take a signifcant performance hit.

Oh, I didn’t catch that - definitely you should be running the linux version if possible…

Well, I’m not running the windows version - but I might do that later, since it would make it possible for me to crunsh the same k/n pairs on linux as in Windows.

Performance hits aren’t an issue with Wine. Performance are usually only impacted lightly or not at all (except for applications relying heavily on directX).

As it is, my windows client crunshes another k/n pair than my linux client - usually giving me a really low work rate on windows and a very high rate on linux. But since I usually don’t run windows I might as well not use SB at all on windows, and just stick to linux (that is - until Haiku R1 is released :stuck_out_tongue: )

I am, I am. Can’t run the windows version. The only reason to use the Windows version would be to crunch the same k/n pairs on both OS’es. But since I’m usually not using windows, it’s not a major issue for me.

We’ll be there soon (in slot 29 that is)… but Minbari would be a nice help for sure.

Struggling to become no 1 is a hard task, but think about it this way. We’re doing progress =)

I think he’s using his processing power for another project… I noticed a week or two ago that he had updated stats on one of the other projects :stuck_out_tongue: - traitor

Edit: I realized after posting this - some might not realize i’m joking  I wish he would come back too!
