Prob with 32 bit install with download

When I do an update or try to install software ,I keep getting:

‘nothing providea haiku x86 r1 beta 5 hrev57937 111 1 needed by git x86 2.51.0-2’

message.??

with two options:

keep git 2.30.2-2 from excluded repository

or

ignore problem for now.

That’s exactly what it says. There’s a new git package available but it requires a new haiku package to work. Unfortunately, that new haiku package is not available yet. So, the updater is asking if you want to keep the old git package in the meantime or if you want to cancel and retry later.
It’s probably a matter of few hours before the new haiku package is available. Try again tomorrow.

This is outdated (should be 129 at the end. I guess you need to run “pkgman full-sync” in Terminal to be on par with beta5.

SoftwareUpdater already does the equivalent to this, no need to use the Terminal

I trust in Terminal  but yeah, probably will/should do the same. :+1:

Please send a screenshot of your repositories preferences

Thanks folks - I tend to get lost in the unfamiliar computing jargon..

and being on a 2GB per month limitation have to do stuff fast without time to explore.

well the prob is still theres..how many days should I wait.?

software update results in : r1 beta5 hrev57937 111-1 needed by git x86-2.51.0-2

In a regular situation, just few hours…
The depot Haiku, where are located Haiku packages, doesn’t refresh. So, it could be that there’s a problem with your repositories settings.
Two things that you can check.
Open Repositories app and check if the depot Haiku is activated as it should be.
Open a Terminal and launch the command pkgman full-sync. As stated above, it will do the same job as SoftwareUpdater but, you will have details.
Take screenshots (by pressing PrtScrn key) and post them here.

For now, uninstall git? You can always re-install this later and it’s not required for the update.

ok..did that with an error… trying to find a usb stick that works on Haiku as I cant use the browser to go online..hardware too old for SSE2

running out of data time(1 hr) ..so will try tomorrow.

Ill look into how to uninstall git and try again.

thanks folks.

  1. check /system/packages for git package, double click, click on “Uninstall”
  2. in Terminal type (not in 32bit atm): pkgman uninstall git_x86

2 options on how to uninstall

EDIT: depending on what’s installed, it could be that git_deamon or the like is there also, uninstalling git will also uninstall those, running this in Terminal (or with HaikuDepot when double-click the package from option 1) you could take a quick screenshot so you know what to re-install later after the update.

it gives the option to ‘Install’ not uninstall..so assume it isn’t installed.

I think my hardware (Aspire 1350) is now just too obsolete ..I have had Haiku_os running on it before…but it was a long time ago.

In HaikuDepot - does one have to be logged in..?

No, only if you want to comment and rate some apps!

If this is with double-clicing the package in /system/packages, it’s likely the package is corrupt, try dragging out of that directory (for instance to the Desktop) and launch update again?

Ive decided I should start again with a new download and install.

..but first am trying out Exegnu and Q4os. Both use the TDE and looks similar to Haiku_os on boot up with the various stages shown in icon form…however its is remarkable how quickly Haiku_os shuts down in comparison.

But they are certainly seemingly easier to set up…on the hardware Im using.
