Hello all,
I’m a longtime BeOS follower, and am the proud owner of a copy of GoBe Productive and Corum III. I’ve got Haiku running under VMware 5.5.1 using one of the .vmdk files available from /scmidp at HaikuHost. Build number is 18220.
I’m blown away at how quickly things have come together recently. Someday I hope our favorite OS enjoys its glory days again. Currently however I’ve got a couple pressing issues. No network support is the main problem. I’ve skated around and seen some info on hashing the .vmx file to use ne2000 but it doesn’t seem to do anything. Anyone know how to configure the network?
If I run ifconfig -a from the terminal is just hangs for awhile and then terminal exits…speaking of which I cannot relaunch terminal once it closes. If I try and lauch it from deskbar it briefly appears in tracker and then exits?!? <shrug>
Oh well if this is the state it is stuck in, it’s a good point to be at, as it seems to be getting very close to useable!
Also, if you look at the Network Team’s mailing list, you’ll see they are in the midst of doing a significant overhaul… so I wouldn’t expect to see networking actually working in Haiku at the moment. But they’re on it, rest assured.

The new stack is being developed in a separate branch, so the current Haiku images should still be using the same (sorta-working) netstack until the net team devs determine it’s time to merge the new one back into the main trunk.
