New PC does not run with Haiku

Hello, i have a new (old new) pc, because the older are damaged by fire of the cables :-(. The other one i use at the moment, haiku does not install, because the startup sequence hanging on the chip symbol. I have tried the fail-save modes but it does not start up. Any idear?

Probably not the answer you want to hear: My Yogabook doesn’t work either. I kicked out Windows 10, installed Linux Mint, installed Virtualbox and installed Haiku in Virtualbox.

Performance ovehead small. Haiku OS is the first OS in Virtualbox 2.1.14 that can play music without stuttering and lag.

“Haiku” not “Haiku OS” please. Or be coherent and say “Windows OS 10” and “Linux OS Mint” or something.

Just a random thought I had this morning - if Haiku doesn’t boot would it be possible for a 2D barcode of the hardware configuration to be dumped on screen? This way a user could take a picture with a mobile phone and then send it to the Haiku team or add it to a bug report…

@lelldorin - is your hardware database publicly accessible anywhere?

We have a qrcode encoder in the kernel debugger, but there is much more to do to get this working:

  1. The system must know that it failed to boot. This is not as trivial as you would think. Maybe it crashed, maybe it thinks everything runs fine, but in fact the display is black because of a problem with the video drivers, etc.
  2. A screen-filling QR-Code has not this much information density. You can fit less than a screenful of text. So we couldn’t include everything. When possible, we instead show the message in text, which actually allows to pack more information than a QR-Code.
  3. The system must boot far enough to be able to show anything at all.

@lelldrolin: have you tried the “enable on-screen debug”? What is the last thing you see there?
