Thanks to everyone who participated in the poll ![]()
We have a winner ![]()
BumbleBe and Hailo! both had three votes, adding my own vote BumbleBe is the winner now.
A new release with the new branding will be ready soon.
You can drop “Be”, as the protocol is not just for BeOS/Haiku. You can drop the “A” in “AIM”, as you are not AOL (as you mentioned). So, what your left with is “IM”. Start from there…and add something that makes sense or go abstract…
I think the Be should stay. I think it makes things more consistent with other applications. Beam, Becasso, BePDF, BePodder.
I’m not sure I like BumbleBe as much.
BeMessage?
HaikuTalk doesn’t seem like a bad idea.
I demand a recount!!! ![]()
I think we could think a bit longer. 2 days isn’t much time, considering it takes me a couple days to update myself on various topics.
Might not come up with a better idea, but worth looking a little more.
HumbleBe = Haiku + BumbleBee + Be + “be humble” …
Or BeHumble? I too am extraordinarily humble.
I sort of agree, despite one of my suggestions containing ‘Be’. It’s Haiku now, so any Be reference feels sort of out of place in a way. Not so much for the apps originating from back then, which I guess this one is too, but for a fresh start, why keep using Be?
In the end, it’s Nipos’ decision which name he wants to use of course (and too bad Hailo! didn’t win
).
Seems kind of wierd to me to critique, it’s a third party project that asked for name suggestions, not something part of the OS ![]()
He could even have renamed it without asking for suggestions
True. It wasn’t much of a critique. I don’t have anything to complain about. It was more of a suggestion to take one’s time to think about it.
Basically, give me more time to think so I can come up with the most genius option. Just my humble opinion.
Thanks for the additional feedback, but the renaming is already done.
After I sent the last post here naming the winner,I spent the whole day renaming it to BumbleBe and removing references to AIM from the code.
All I still have to do is a final check that I didn’t miss anything, and finally git push.
bumble-bee
1530, replacing M.E. humbul-be, alt. by assoc. with M.E. bombeln “to boom, buzz,”
(M.E. — Middle English)
Considering the code of Haiku is full of Be, BRect, BAlert, BWindow etc…
Besides that,I think that using Be in the name makes sense to show that it’s a native Haiku application, not some ported Qt or GTK stuff.
I always thought Kde shoving a “K” into every app was annoying. it isn’t that many applications called something Be though. ![]()
Using “Be” in the name only shows it’s a native application to those who know the Haiku story. The great majority of people will have no idea of its significance.
But no matter, most names are meaningless. Who would ever think that “Windows” had something to do with computers? At least BumbleBe has a certain buzz about it.
Sorry!
It wouldn’t be as bad if they didn’t do things like Konsole and Kontact. I guess I’m just not a fan of the branding. BePDF or BeBounce just looks neater and more professional. I wouldn’t like BPDF or BBounce.
Those two I actually don’t mind, they are just the german names
(well mostly)
Ah. Good to know. I’ll stick with Terminal and Tracker though.
