New name/branding for BeAIM - Ideas?

Hello Haiku users,
some of you may know my BeAIM project already,a native instant messaging solution for Haiku.
I will have to change the name soon,as AIM is a registered trademark of AOL/Yahoo.
As I’m not the most creative person out there,I want to ask you for suggestions for a new name for the application.
If someone has designing skills,a new icon or a rewrite of the existing one as HVIF vector icon would be great as well.
Some uncreative ideas from my side:

  • BeTalk (taken, not sure about trademark)
  • BeChat (taken, not sure about trademark)
  • RetroTalk (free)
  • RetroChat (taken, not sure about trademark)
  • HaikuTalk (free)
  • HaikuChat (taken, not sure about trademark)

I’m sure you guys will find a much better name for the project.
It can be some random name that doesn’t seem like a messenger at first look, like it’s usually done with most other Haiku applications.
It’s just that I’m really not an expert in finding great names.
Thank you for your help

I suck at names too, but…

  • “Eloquent” (fancier than “Bigtalk”).

  • “Shual”, short for “Shut up already!”, which most users will certainly yell, if I ever sign up  (altenatively: “Shut up and listen!”).

Edit: in my country, “talks like a parrot” (or parakeet) sometimes is said about chatty people. Maybe some variant/mod on one of those birds’ names? “Cacatua”, “ParaKit”, “Pirate’s best friend” (PoorMan’s logo with a bird on the shoulder instead of the bindle).

… end of my poor English fantasy.

Hailo

KomUniQ

+1 on that one. Perhaps stylized as “Hailo?” or better yet: “Hailo!” (at least on docs/aboutbox, and “marketing” material).

What about HaikuM

Call it Haim

Haim is a proper noun (i.e. a name), and the one thing you can’t copyright or trademark is a proper noun.

Just don’t capitalize the last three letters

Haikai?
(Haikai may refer in both Japanese and English to haikai no renga, a popular genre of Japanese linked verse.)

Not expert on names also here, one thought though, HaikuIM (not sure if it’s taken)?

I kind of like Haikai. Since we already have Renga, someone who gets the reference may find the that the two apps are proposing same kind of things. I also like Haim for the reference to original name.
As you can flag users, I was thinking about Shame, a reference to Talk Talk hit.

I would suggest adhering to certain rules in the names of programs. Stick mostly to English, so that it is at least partially clear what the program is for, and that it is also translatable. For example, “saisausai-chat” is a good name for chat program, but “saisausai” is too vague.

Thanks for BeAIM, I use it practically every day!
In terms of names, I like Haim. HaikuTalk seems a bit too long and generic in my opinion but it could also work.

I’m not that inventive with names, so I can’t really suggest anything significantly better, though thinking in the direction of the Haiku logo something like “Foliage” comes to mind. It’s not the best name however and I would be fine with practically anything from this thread

Thank you very much for so many ideas :+1:
To make a final decision,I created a poll where you can vote for your favorite name.
I added options that I think sound good, are somewhat original and will hopefully not get me into legal trouble.
Speaking of Hailo, there are some projects or products with that name already,so I’m not sure if we can use this even if it wins: Seek Ninja - Stealthy Search Engine
Similar situation for KnockKnock, but I’m not sure if a name that simply repeats a English word twice can be easily copyrighted: Seek Ninja - Stealthy Search Engine

  • Eloquent
  • Hyaku
  • Haikai
  • BumbleBe
  • Hailo!
  • KnockKnock

Some comments about other proposals that didn’t make it into the vote:

  • Haim: I understand that you want to keep the AIM part, but I don’t feel like trolling AOL.There are zero reasons to do so.AIM is long discontinued and BeAIM is now an independent project that can have its own name.If AOL doesn’t want the AIM name used, then I won’t use it.
  • LeafChat: I actually like that name, but there is an IRC Client with that name already and it’s popular enough that it even has it’s own Wikipedia page: LeafChat - Wikipedia
  • Unity: There’s already the game engine and Ubuntus desktop environment, two big projects using this name.

It’s your app, name it what you want. If you’d like a name suggestion I have a radical one: Instant Messenger.
