I have been trying to create an Ameliorated Win10 USB stick, but you have to go through this app called Telegram, but I can’t get it to work. I was wondering if someone on this forum might be able to make me a bootable flash drive with the Ameliorated Win10 ISO on it. I can pay for the stick and your time. If so, please email me at reactos8484@use.startmail.com.
If you are that cautious about security, I wouldn’t recommend buying a modified Windows version on a USB stick over Telegram. You have no idea what they changed in the system, or what effect the modifications have on the stability or security of the system. If it comes down to it I’d rather trust Microsoft than some random people on the internet.
But really, if you want a non-commercial operating system, why not just use Debian or any other non-corporate Linux distro? And of course follow the progress of Haiku, on a 2nd partition or in a VM. Maybe it will fit your needs for a primary OS in the future.
Yes, sorry. I downloaded Telegram. When I open the app, it asks me to enter my cell phone number to receive a call. When I enter it, I never receive the call. There is also an option to receive a text. When I select the text option, I never receive the text.
I was wondering if someone else might be able to try this and see if they have luck. If so, I was wondering if maybe someone could download the iso and upload it to dropbox or maybe I could mail them a USB stick and they could load it for me. Happy to pay for the postage, time and effort!
Haven’t read all the thread, but why don’t you just download the ISO and write it to a flash disk using Etcher or Rufus? There are tons of tutorials about this on the internet.
I’m having trouble downloading the ISO because I can’t get into Telegram for some reason. I was hoping someone who can access Telegram could download it for me and send it to me somehow. Then I should be all set. Telegram just is not working for me for some reason.
He’s trying to get the Ameliorated Windows ISO which is a heavily modified version and as far as I know illegal to distribute in most parts of the world.
I would be careful with USB keys created by a third party, and I don’t think this forum is the place to ask for Warez.
As far as I know, there is nothing illegal about the ameliorated edition of Windows. It’s Windows with the spyware and telemetry removed. They even state on the website that there is nothing illegal about this ISO. My problem is that Telegram doesn’t work for me for some reason. I just can’t download it because Telegram doesn’t work for me. It never sends me the text or the phone call.
It might be somewhat legal to make a modified ISO as per the website instructions, but the distribution of the ISO (and so, making/sending an USB stick for someone on the internet) it’s not legal.
Windows is not free software. If I remember correctly, the process involves removing the activation DRM from Windows, which makes it possible for people to easily use the software without purchasing a license. That makes this illegal software at least in Europe and the USA.
It can be downloaded for free, yes, but in order to use it, after a certain amount of time, you must purchase a license key. That’s why distribution of a version of Windows that has had that activation functionality removed is considered illegal in the US and EU. This limitation was around as far back as Windows XP, so it’s obviously nothing new. Also, I’d imagine distribution of a modified version of Windows might be grounds for a lawsuit on the basis of copyright infringement or similar offense, at least in the US. I’m not a legal expert, though.
On a bit of a tangent, I think the price of a Windows 10 product key is something like $129US, which I personally consider a bit exorbitant…
I’m not a legal expert either, and I don’t have the time or energy to look into this. I’m just trying to get an OS that doesn’t spy on me and isn’t obnoxious. They can come arrest me if they have a problem with it.
ANYWAY, I think I may have FINALLY found a way to download this ISO:
Link to probably illegal software removed by forum moderation team
Hello,
As mentionned in the topic, this version of Windows is:
Unsafe: we don’t know who did it and what they added or removed to it, it’s quite possible they removed Microsoft spyware (not sure how they would dio that, even the Windows calculator has built-in spyware and you’d need to recompile it to remove it), but added their own one.
Illegal: the fact that the official version is free to download does not mean it’s ok to modify it and redistribute the results.
I have removed the link, since none of these two things are welcome here (and this forum is not about Windows).
Just to be clear. If you want a totally secure computer, find something “reasonably secure”, install the os, update it, then disconnect any network cable, move into a double-layered soundproof room which also are faraday cadges which will block any radio signals from getting into and out of that room. If you have a computer that has ANY kind of connection to the internet your computer is not secure. PERIOD!
Otherwise, pick your poison. Nothing is totally secure.
I have come to the conclusion that it is impossible to install Win10 Ameliorated. I purchased a new hard drive with Win7 on it. I wiped out this OS and installed a clean install of Win10 Ameliorated. With the new install, it prompts you for a user/pass. Obviously, it’s not possible to enter this because it’s a clean install. It never gives you an option to enter it. You can hold down SHIFT+Restart and get to different menu options, but none of them allow you to create a user/pass. Vicious cycle.
If you care about your privacy and security you definitely shouldn’t be using this custom-modified versions of Windows. You don’t know how the modifications could impact the stability of the system, and also it could contain spyware or other malware added.
If your network connection doesn’t work with Linux, try to research on the web about what’s needed to make it work under it. Perhaps what was needed was just an additional binary firmware blob to be installed, or it was a bug that needed to be fixed.
Going with Windows because of privacy is an oxymoron. Better give Linux or some of the BSDs a chance. Or choose Haiku also if you like it and also know what it have and lacks.
Are you for real? Here is a very simple solution: use Linux for web browsing and other internet needs, and enable LUKS encryption on your drive.
For tasks that don’t work on Linux, you can use an offline Windows install (XP, 7 or 10 LTSC), either in a VM or real hardware. Microsoft can’t spy on you if there’s no internet connection. And of course don’t put any sensitive files on a physical Windows drive.
This solution will give you the best possible combination of security and compatibility with relatively little hassle.
There is good not well known Linux distro based on Debian (stable or testing versions):
Ubuntu these days not very good tested (many bugs on Desktop versions), I tried Manjaro, too many bugs as well. SparkyLinux (Rolling version, based on Debian testing) worked for me. Although there have been some problems installing Nvidia proprietary drivers.
