Using the bootloader from a Linux spin can also be problematic.
Ubuntu will pick it up with an ‘update-grub’.
The Debian minimal spins like Linux BBQ Lunchtime use a more basic grub setup and require a few extra steps.
I haven’t tested it from my Arch (Manjaro) drive.
