Thank you very much Austin (MrEntropy)!
Because I’m probably overwhelmed, I gave your answers to Zurga from the Ancestris team (forum).
There is great help there, but Haiku is probably unknown and NO Linux, MacOS or Windows.

No problem. I can probably get better and more complete logs if you need them.

netbeans in the HaikuDepot = 8.2-1
Aktuell Apache NetBeans = 12.0 (4. Juni 2020)

Can it be related to that?

Hi,
I think there will be less misunderstanding if I answer directly here.

Which version of Ancestris do you use ?
Only the version 10 and 11 are compliant with Jdk 11.
By the way, Ancestris 10 use Netbeans 8.2
Ancestris 11 use Netbeans 11.3.

If you get the splash screen, could you check the ancestris log file (see the documentation to get the exact location : https://docs.ancestris.org/books/user-guide/page/software-files-and-user-settings-files#bkmrk-user-settings-files )

Oh dear, I have to write a prize …
the Olivetti Programma 101 (around 1965, with it, the coordinates were calculated for the first flight to the moon) but I would like to keep …

My Windows machines run Ancestris V11 to get the daily / nightly updates.
It’s similar to Haiku’s nightly’s.

Uh. Let’s see. Ancestris 10, I would say. With JDK 8 I get the splash screen and the log file. I can’t seem to attach files so I can send it to you another way, if you like.

If I use JDK 11 I don’t get a splash screen, but it still crashes.

As far as I can see, netbeans on Haiku is at version 8.2-1

You can send the log file to me at zurga at ancestris.org (I’m sure you know what to do with the extra space and @ symbol ).

Yup. And as soon as I figure out how to get it off my Haiku VM I’ll send it to you.

Welcome Zurga, thanks for helping out!

My part is essentially to help Ancestris user to get the best genealogy software of any time (obvious exaggeration involved) to work on the OS he wants.

The segmentation fault leads me to think there is some bad port somewhere, but I doubt this is related directly to Ancestris rather than Netbeans.
Ancestris code is a bunch of netbeans plugins packaged in nbm.

So, the good news is that with JDK 8 and netbeans installed, I managed to get Ancestris working. However, all the text were square boxes. So I installed the Deja Vu font and tried it again.

Now it won’t run again. So… if you wanted to see if you can get it working, run HaikuDepot, install openjdk8_default and the Deja Vu font and give it a whirl.

I have no idea what I did to get it to run (twice, actually) but if I can figure it out, I’ll let you know.

And I’m pretty sure it’s not Ancestris crashing, it’s the Java Runtime Environment.

Maybe I did everything wrong, Ancestris started several times but then froze when loading the modules (JAVA, NetBeans) …
… and suddenly this …: ???

With Haiku and WebPositive I cannot attach the ScreenShot here, not even with drag and drop!
It fills the entire screen, otherwise nothing works!

Ancestris-Haiku

It works with Otter Browser.

Yeah, I got it to run twice and then it didn’t. Tried in 64- and 32-bit. I have no idea what gets it to decide to function.

But I’m glad you got it going!

Thank you Austin (MrEntropy)! Thanks to Zurga from the Ancestris Team!
Without you I would actually have thrown the gun in the grain!

I was able to load a GEDCOM file that I had saved, as well as updates for Ancestris itself.

Now Haiku’s JAVA specialists are called upon, because Ancestris V11 (similar to Haiku is updated daily / nightly) does not work with the current NetBeans version from the Haiku depot.

Ancestris V11 has seen so many updates / corrections (100 … 200 …?) Compared to the V10 that they cannot be ignored!

As I said, Ancestris v11 is based on Netbeans 11.3.
I don’t know if this version is supported for Haiku.
I don’t know what you have installed besides Ancestris (Netbeans ? )
If you have installed only Ancestris and Java, you can try to launch the v11 version with a JDK 8.
Ancestris provide all the files from Netbeans.

I’ll try that out tomorrow during the day.
I will report what I installed and how I (wrong?) Proceeded.

Maybe unrelated, but Ancestris crashing in IPv6 check, and as it is well known IPv6 is broken on Haiku, so this can be a hint.
Have to say i tested it with (probably) way too recent Java on 64 bit, and never was able to get it start at all, so maybe it is just java compatibility acting up.
