How to watch YouTube on HAIKU

I’m planing on going full time HAIKU on my AMD APU netbook once the Radeon_HD driver starts working. I have sorted out most of my software needs except a way to view youtube videos. Has anyone figured out a way to do so and if yes I would like to know. I’m not looking for flash on haiku but a way to just watch the videos.
Thanks in advance.

…have you tried with HTML5 version ?

Without flash, the only option is to download the video.

  1. use YAVTD (Yet Another Video Tube Downloader)
    http://haikuware.com/directory/view-details/multimedia/video/miscellaneous/yavtd

very basic app, but it works fine

  1. use ‘ssyoutube.com’ to download
(there are many other online YT download sites, but most use Java and won’t work with Haiku – this site does)

Note: if it’s a big video and takes awhile to download, you don’t have to wait until it’s finished to view it. Just double-click on the file as it’s downloading and MediaPlayer will play it for you (or, using YAVTD, just hit the Play button). If your bandwidth is good enough, you could watch the video straight through in this manner. If not, you’ll have to hit the Pause button in MediaPlayer now and again to let the download catch up.

Mediaplayer works with videos. Not all formats but once you figure out which ones work on your particular system (I have Haiku on 3 pc’s and they all behave differently) just try to download that format. For me FLV (flash) works as long as its 400x224, 24fps video and MP3 16 Bit Stereo 22.05khz…anything higher quality than that and it chokes. You’ll have to experiment until you figure it out.

I’m not sure if webpositive supports html5 video.
Does it?
