How to install .hpkg in R1/Alpha 4.1

I’m new to Haiku and i’m trying to install qupzilla but the extension of the installer it’s .hpkg. I’m using haiku R1/Alpha 4.1 and sice HaikuDepot it’s only in the nightly build how do iI install this type of file?

The .hpkg format is for a Package Managed version of haiku and cannot be installed in r1a4. It is a special form of a zip file that is used as a vertual addition to the filesystem, one can uncompress the files from the ecpander app in a Package Managed version of haiku, but the chances are that the files themselves would not run as there have been many changes to haiku since r1a4.

I suggest you install a recent nightly to gain access to most of the software now available on Haiku.

? haiku alpha 4.0 was switched to 4.1 because they include package management

so you can install older packages like this tutorial explain:

Alpha 4.1 was released to fix a bug in the kernel that prevented booting on several machines. It has nothing to do with package management.

HPKG files cannot be used on Alpha 4.1. So yes, you will need a relatively recent nightly, or wait for beta 1 for which there is sadly still no defined schedule.

I have no idea how you read that from my post. R1A4 and R1A4.1 ard vutrually the same with the exception of the bugfix for boot on several kinds of systems. I referred to R1A4 as I didn’t need to go with the point release to boot on my hardware.

Sorry for any confusion.
