Hedgewars on Haiku?

I’ve always played hedgewars on Linux or Mobile, along with there also being official labeled ports like FreeBSD, Windows, and MacOS, but there hasn’t even been a Haiku port, which just absolutely stinks. Because it’s the ONLY thing keeping me from being more on Haiku. Lua IS on Haiku after all. And yes, I’ve also made the same topic on the Hedgewars Website.

(Haiku or Console Version? | Hedgewars)

There are open tickets and pull requests at HaikuPorts but the effort seems to be stalled until someone wants to look into the opengl problem.

Someone was working on packaging…

i never played hedge wars is that like a clone of worms or something

how did it work for you? Because when i first installed it, it didn’t show “Open hedgewars”,

It didn’t show up in the menu, (it would be in between “HaikuDepot” and “Icon-O-Matic”

And when i went into the game directory, it didn’t even work. Because it needs files that would’ve installed if the hpkg was modified to install them too. :frowning:

Why couldn’t the hpkg have the dependencies be automatically installed like others? It’s a HUGE waste of time, especially since once i finally got the menu to work, it was JUST like before when the menu was the ONLY thing to work.

The package you installed is compiled against some Qt version 5 libraries but does not correctly indicate these dependencies, so the package kit does not know that they have to be installed;

You could ask the author of the package to correct the dependencies or try manually hunting them (here it is probably qt5core or something like that?

You can use pkgman in the Terminal to search for these aswell, for example:

$ pkgman search lib:libqt5network
Status  Name  Description

S       qt5   A comprehensive C++ application development framework

Qt5 is still (and probably remain) a full package, meaning all libraries are contained in the base package, I also see libphysfs in that screenshot, the requirements I see here take all those into account and should be installed.

REQUIRES="
	haiku$secondaryArchSuffix
	lib:liblua$secondaryArchSuffix
	lib:libphysfs$secondaryArchSuffix
	lib:libQt5Core$secondaryArchSuffix
	lib:libSDL2_2.0$secondaryArchSuffix
	lib:libSDL2_image_2.0$secondaryArchSuffix
	lib:libSDL2_mixer_2.0$secondaryArchSuffix
	lib:libSDL2_net_2.0$secondaryArchSuffix
	lib:libSDL2_ttf_2.0$secondaryArchSuffix
	"

Where did you get hedgewars from? I only have 1.0.2 here.

Well, it was one of the packages other than (somehow) 1.1.0. So i installed it, although i couldn’t get 1.0.3 to work, because yes, the package only installed the app and its unique data. Not the required dependencies, like it actually should install if it was an app on the HaikuDepot servers.

At least at the depot server there isn’t any package available, so you have to talk to the person where you got this from?

We’ve tried numerous times to get it working, iirc @cocobean had one that worked though.

I got it from the link @cocobean gave me, So i might talk with them about it. Maybe even try to resolve the unmentioned and non-installed dependencies thing.

Qt5 should be pretty common on a install, but just in case:

pkgman install qt5 physfs

I already did qt5 and physfs. but even then, all i could use was the menu. The game engine would simply (and immediately) crash. But i did ONLY do qt5 and physfs. It also needs some extra ones like Lua.

In the recipe I have here it’s using lua5.3, so you might ask @cocobean which version he used.

You can use Lua 5.1.

Deps:

SDL2,SDL2_image,SDL2_mixer,SDL2_net,SDL2_ttf,ffmpeg,Lua 5.1, Qt5

Thanks for giving me the dependencies list :slight_smile:, but maybe for others you can give the recompiled package with the dependencies, and request it to be put on the haikuports repo for easy access.

It even works now! :smiley:
