Hang on a minute ( Are you sure it's not a Feather? )

Right… so … if the things in the HAIKU logo are leaves;

Then WHy is the One on the DeskBar BluE?

First, if you’re going to post a huge graphic out of something and circle it red (otherwise I promise I wouldn’t have cared!), it is ‘definitely’. And yes, on behalf of everyone here, the Leaf menu icon on the Deskbar is blue - not orange, red, green, or yellow; this is something decided when Haiku was being developed. It is unfortunate that its silhouette is rather similar to a floating feather, and that the shape has confused a few in the past.

However, there are the rare green-blue leaves in nature. For instance, “From a distance the leaves appear a bluish/green colour” in leaves on the Stringybark tree in Australia (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eucalyptus_agglomerata ). I might also add there are now plants that are being engineered to be bioluminescent (source: http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0015461 ) and there was a Kickstarter campaign recently to that effect. So, it may be possible to have them glow white or bluish-white in the dark similar to the trees in the film Tomorrowland, commonplace not too far off in the future from the now. I might also add cyanobacteria or the algae type existing in symbiosis with a plant may influence the color one may find on or around the leaves, as well as the evolution and genetics of a plant that can and may determine the chlorophyll quantity and pigment to produce. (See here: http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/biology/pigpho.html#c2 , here: http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/biology/ligabs.html , and here: http://harvardforest.fas.harvard.edu/leaves/pigment for a quick reference). All this said, it is indeed true that you sadly won’t find a sapphire or pure blue leaf in nature, unlike Morph OS’ bluish butterflies which do actually exist (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_blue ), so for all practical purposes, there is enough to safely say with some confidence that Haiku hasn’t had a feather going incognito all these years (or was there?) xD

But nonetheless, in design, blue = digital, coolness, and tranquility/depth, so using the blue leaf on the Deskbar fits the theme of ancient Japanese poetry intersecting with the computer age perfectly. (Although, personally, I have wished Appearance had an option to change the leaf color). Truth be told, it can be a confusing thing to have it be blue, which is understandable, as leaves are understood to be generally green as much as the sky is generally perceived as blue. It’s like serving blue ( http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/money/industries/food/2003-04-07-blue-ketchup_x.htm ) or even green ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/828847.stm ) ketchup to someone for the first time! But anyway, the feather confusion has went around for a while, so I hope this post will really help clear it up, or at least I hope and Be-“leaf” so! :slight_smile: Cheers, all. :slight_smile:

P.S. (Oh, and as a small disclaimer to any and all readers past, present, and future, please don’t take my post too seriously! :wink:

You seriously think than you’re not spamming with such posts?

If the above reprimand is meant for me, then I do apologize to the community; I admit my post went a bit overboard and had a good amount of hyperlinks in it, and probably shouldn’t have posted it. If nothing else, I was trying to actually be simultaneously serious about and a tad silly with this topic, and I admit I’ve also replied to several other posts more than I usually do yesterday. Alternatively, if it was meant for the OP, I’d agree there have been a good number of random posts in the last few days.

Yes, I’m talking about OP.
Running over all forum like a cat with a firecracker tied to the tail is always bad idea.

Yeah, sorry, there doesn’t seem to be the level of activity that i’m used to on this forum.

I’ll shut up…

For now…

Please don’t “shut up”. You have something to contribute. I may argue against you, but I do want to hear it.

Every forum has its own culture and it takes a while to get to know a new one. On this forum, we have a strange habit of reviving really old threads, even years afterwards, rather than starting new ones. Someone called it “thread necrophilia” :-). Don’t know why this is so important, your message takes up the same amount of server space, but that’s how it is and people get annoyed when you don’t follow the culture.
