Hello,

after I realized I couldn’t integrate librespot and the Spotify Web API into Beton (in any good way), I came up with this idea.

This is a little homage to my all-time favorite audio player. Basically, Spotify meets the year 2000.

It is a Spotify Web API client that lets you control any of the devices connected to your Spotify account and play music on Haiku using librespot as a playback target.

During development I relied heavily on Codex analytical capabilities and code completion features. A large portion of the code was generated as I was writing it, so this project is AI-generated. By the end, almost none of my original work had remained untouched. But i definitely had fun to design and develop it, and i learned a lot.

If you just want to control your local Spotify playback devices, you don’t need to start librespot. If you want to play Spotify music directly on Haiku, you’ll need librespot and a Spotify Premium account.

Currently, all you have to do is start Haify and sign in to Spotify. If you want to play music directly on Haiku, go to Settings and start librespot. You can also choose to have librespot start automatically with Haify.

After that, drop the Player and Artwork replicants onto your Desktop and enjoy your music! :slight_smile:

Why this name?
Haiku + Spotify = Haify. Obviously. But if you speak it out, you could speak it as HiFi… You really shouldn’t let me name things! :stuck_out_tongue:

There is also Brube2000 , i features the support for Tidal too, the guy behind this alternative depot probably would be interested to add your project to “Spritz”

Oh, I had no idea something like this already existed. It looks impressive. Tidal was on my list, too. If this is already available, Haify is practically useless. Next time I play around with something, I should do better research first XD

The more, the better! Having several options and seeing different approaches is always a good thing, just few time ago there was no option :wink:

I have a question: I don’t understand how to install the librespot library. When I try to install it with pkgman install librespot, I get ‘Operation not allowed’.

Sorry, I’m afraid I can’t really help with that. That sounds like a pkgman or repositories issue. Are you running the latest nightly or an older release?

If you are still on beta5, please keep in mind that changes to the repositories are coming up (or may have already been made) in preparation for the upcoming Beta6.
