GSoC 2026 Final Report | Modernizing Haiku's Bluetooth Stack: HID Profile Implementation | Haiku Project

Hello! Finally, GSoC is done for me. This is the final report for my project. The project was focused on improving the Bluetooth stack and making it useful. Hopefully, the Bluetooth stack is now in a much better state than before GSoC 2026. It still needs much work to be fully developed. However, currently Bluetooth mice and keyboards are functioning. In addition, the core of the stack is ready for implementing other profiles.

You’re welcome, Mohammed !

I red this report with pleasure, especially as it was verbose (others used to mention to me about my written suffs) , but prompt (I sometimes fail) -

I hope since we exchanged messages in private recently .. you may have time to read the other applicants blogposts … ;- ))
(it’s not a critic, just surprised what you answered me privately, when I mentioned they already did it, so I expected yours too … So simply I do not mock you with it, just genuinely think it worth to do it.)

Have a good time, and me also thank you your hard work!

Me also belongs users who have vendor specific Bluetooth device with firmware upload to work in all working laptops I have.
So, if I launch Bluetooth services I do not see anything from your development actually.
Except, if I would check out processes of bluetooth_server team now – I should have see new processes of your’s and Vighnesh’s additions there, but nothing at surface, as actually no local device detected as the upcoming Bluetooth preferences window shows to me …

I’ll be sure to read them as well. Our final submission deadlines vary, and I wasn’t following the forum here well enough to notice the blog posts : ).

Yeah my Bluetooth device also don’t work on bare metal. I relied on Linux initializing the device along the summer, as I was working on virtual machine ofc. I believe it’s a critical next step for many users to support vendor devices. Maybe next summer other gsoc contributors would complete this ; ).

Thank you for all your work and for the detailed blog post.
I learned a lot about the internal technical details of Bluetooth from that.
Looking forward to testing Bluetooth keyboards and mice with my devices.
I’m curious if at least one of them works without firmware blobs.
