Distributed projects for lower-performance computers?

I have decided to take my slower machines OFF of SoB until the new client software comes out. I would like to have them running sieve, but I don’t want to do it until they have a system to give points to TeamHaiku for the effort. The new client software supposedly will support this when it’s released. I don’t think there will be a huge decrease in my SoB production as a result - I will be keeping several P4 machines hammering away for TeamHaiku and intend to maintain a ~10M cEMs/sec rate over the next months at least (shouldn’t be a problem as the n values get larger anyway).

So I am contemplating putting these slower machines on a different project for a while. Anyone know which projects are slow-computer-friendly?

I’m specifically looking for something where the work units can be finished in a week or less if possible.

No, I didn’t. I tried running some other projects on my slower machines, but was even more disappointed by the work unit time-to-completion.

I’m still waiting for a SoB 3.0 client that supports seiving w/stats support… in the meantime, I have my PIII 600 running sb under Haiku.

I should have it running secondpass, though - which takes less time to complete a k/n pair.

How about running F@H with work unit time limits turned off, as well as disabling large WUs? Seems I’m the only active F@H cruncher for TeamHaiku. :frowning:

I’ve got my main A64 system crunching, as well as my mom’s dinosaur 266MHz Gateway (though I don’t think it’s completed a WU yet, but I haven’t tweaked the settings either). But I’ll have two more 1GHz+ Athlons crunching full-time once I get them up and running. 8)

I was doing F@H for a while on my PIII 600 - but now it’s running BeOS/Haiku again 24x7…

Maybe I’ll set up my Via C3 box to run it… thanks for the hints.
