Why would we want to do that? It is on topic (until now) and the participants are all acting very civilized (as far as I can tell). The only off-topic, non-constructive comment so far is yours.
So, if you disagree about what was said above, join the discussion and let us know what you think. And if you’re not interested in the topic, just ignore the thread. It’s that easy

Just as a random concept, is a deskbar that can read Retrobar files possible?
With this compatibility, we can import retrobar theme files as deskbar themes with styles we like.

Why integrate top level leaf menu into Deskbar? Existing one is better I think.

Many people like existing BeOS/Haiku design and don’t want it to be broken. If such people will not say anything, it will create wrong impression that everyone agree with changes.

Modern desktop GUI design inspired by smartphones is an absolute disaster to my opinion and I don’t want Haiku to copy it.

That’s perfectly alright, and I’m at least partially in that camp myself. But the user I replied to wasn’t saying anything about their UI preferences, they just wanted us to kill the discussion.

Modern desktop GUI design becoming more smartphone/tablet-like is an absolute disaster. For the beginning there is fundamental difference between mouse-keyboard device and touch screen device. Mouse-keyboard device (Personal computer) allows more precise control and serves professional productivity purposes.

It’s a trend doesn’t mean its desirable, just like flat design. There shall be some communities stand out to restore the original order of tech industry.

Recently the HarmonyOS computer from Huawei is released, and its only being regarded as “Tablet XL” but not a real PC. Mainland China is a society with wider use of touch devices than PCs, and people still dislike the idea of turning PCs into tablets with keyboard.

The idea of turning desktop GUI design to become more smartphone/tablet-like never works.

The search bar in the appilcation menu is meant to be used as QuickLaunch (awesome little application that should be installed as defaut IMHO) : you type in the name of an installed application to start it. The second one in the main Dekbar is meant to launch the query. But you’re quite right, the optimal solution is to have only one search box (the main one) able to launch installed apps AND perform a query.

I am not sure to understand what you mean ? The main idea is to «extract» what’s inside the blue leaf menu to make it more discoverable (as some reviewers didn’t find it).

I totally agree ! I absolutely don’t want to loose the Haiku GUI feeling, and if that’s the impression you got then my mockups need more work.

a lighter grey colour and more closer and only a little bit stylised icons would make the theme look better (am not saying to copy old theme)

Sounds like it’s time to dust off the Glass Elevator project and start rehashing ideas again :slightly_smiling_face:

Very well said @X512 !!! Completely agree.
