DD vs BFS

I should not have trusted DD, the numbers don’t match still but the diffirence is very minor.[/quote]

Ah, a gigabyte (GB) is not 2^30 bytes, it’s a billion, just like in gigahertz or a giga- anything else. If you check you will see the numbers I quoted are GiB not GB.

The other few hundred megabyte difference, which you call very minor, could have several explanations, it could be that some direct or indirect block runs were shorter than the maximum length as a result of fragmentation. It could also result from the pre-allocation strategy employed in BFS, and I’m sure there are other possibilities.

It is not fragmentation. I tested with a reformatted drive each time.

Anyway, I will do some more tests as soon as I have the free time.
