Cool Haiku Wallpaper

Came across this cool Haiku Wallpaper and thought I’d share it with the rest of you.

Maybe this could be included in Haiku?

wow
Nice web 2.0 like background :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, it’s very sleek looking.

The weird thing is that this same image looks different on two of my systems, both of which have different ATI Radeon video cards.

System with CRT, it shows up with black background with orange glow.

System with LCD, it shows as dark blue background with a whitish ( or yellowish? ) glow.

I believe it’s the video cards doing this but I’m not going to rule out the monitors yet. Kinda strange. Will have to check it out on a 3rd system to see what I get.

I’m not sure if it’s okay for X. Random Dude to be using the official Haiku logo. If HaikuPorts can’t use it, etc., is it alright to use for wallpapers such as he has, or is that a ‘derivative work’.

Oh, but, I like the wallpapers. Muchly.

Well, Ronny did post these wallpapers to the “openbeos” list a while back to get feedback (March of this year in fact). At that time, nobody mentioned restrictions on the use of the logo for wallpapers…

I’m guessing that the use of logos in wallpapers isn’t necessary something that the core Haiku team is worried about primarily. It’s a good point though, and all such uses that are published publicly should request permission officially.

Team Haiku also uses the Haiku logo: http://teamhaiku.com - and I believe I also mentioned this publicly once on the mailing list over a year ago (although, I can’t find it now…)

Maybe it’s time to start another discussion about this on the mailing list, and get some official trademark documentation put together and published on the website.

Ah, alright. I wasn’t subscribed to the MLs back then…
I agree that some form of document needs to be put together; collecting all the responses from the mailing lists can be… tedious… at best.

Haiku has a published trademark policy which says that among other things, “Desktop wallpapers” are acceptable use without approval. Of course it’s from the part of the site that still says Michael Phipps is the project leader.

Aha, you are correct: http://www.haiku-os.org/about/trademark_policy

Funny, I thought for some reason nothing had been posted yet.

Where is it linked from? I only found it by using the “search”.

Edit: Nevermind, I see it’s a link in the sidebar when viewing one of the “About” pages.

I like the other two that are similar . . .

I really love the wallpaper from the first link. I think that is perfect for the project. A lot of OS projects underestimate the strength of a beautiful wallpaper when it comes to making a first impression on potential users. This wallpaper is beautiful and elegant without being obnoxiously bright/colorful. It is also quite simple in design(there is not too much going on at once). Two thumbs up!

There’s only one small problem with the wallpaper… reflections don’t overlap their source. The reflected “U” is overlapping the source “U”.

Well, to be fair, he did create some “fixed” versions after that was pointed out to him on the mailing list earlier this year:
