Made this to see if people have this to see if people have these same experiences I have in Haiku
So the first time I every used haiku after coming from Linux(Ubuntu and mint) I was so shocked to see how fast haiku, the second thing was trying to use configuration i was so confused about using it and specifically trying to config repository setting and lastly comparing it to Linux and window oddly enough I did this so much that google has it suggested to me
Pretty much. Running Haiku and AntiX Linux side by side in virtual machines with the same configuration (and the same host, obviously) makes it very noticeable how much faster Haiku boots up. But I don’t understand what you mean about configuration. What repository settings? If you mean for the package manager, it should work out of the box. And compared to Linux, it’s a lot easier to figure out Haiku, even before reading the manual. You should still do that, by the way.
I mean, like having to manually configure the repository setting in haiku depot I feel like that was like very confusing especially trying to see what was wrong with it
There should be no need to manually configure the repository.
The haiku and haikuports repository are preconfigured on every new Haiku install.
Wait, so why won’t mine work because it like keeps stopping every time I try to do it and then it usually requires me to manually configure the repository just the fix and get the right packages because these other ones are not working
Dunno; it should have just worked after the install.
The Terminal command:
pkgman list-repos
will list your configured repos; on my laptop it gives:
~> pkgman list-repos

No in fact, it has non of that
Maybe post your list here? Hard to tell what has changed on your side, and as mentioned above this shouldn’t be required (unless you are adding third-party repositories).
I used Haiku over the last ~10 years on and off on spare computers but about a month ago i decided to take the jump, completely dive in and now - for a bit over a month - its the only PC system i use at home. The situation today is really good compared to a couple of years ago, with modern browsers available its a system i can now daily drive without major pain points. And - as you have pointed out already - its fast.
Regarding the configuration issues you mentioned… i really hadn’t any. The package repositories worked out of the box.
