CHAP support for dialup

Hi!

I’ve tried haiku via wmware, but it didn’t work really fine, so I was thinking of trying to install via linux.

But I would like to know if haiku has chap support for ppp connection. Beos p.e. hasn’t, I don’t know if beosmax or zeta has it. Do you know?

Any solution?

Thanks.

As far as I know, there isn’t yet any kind of dial-up networking. Sorry, 'bout that…

AFAIK, we do have PPP support. But only PAP authentication protocol is implemented, CHAP is missing. Sorry.

To our defence, ISPs not supporting PAP but requiring CHAP are quite rare. This may explains why we still don’t have CHAP support.

May I suggest you create an enhancement ticket at dev.haiku-os.org for this requirement, so it wont be lost in memories?

That already exists as bug 992 in the Haiku bug database, filed a year or so ago. It seems to depend on bug 812 being fixed, which would port the PPP support to the “new” Haiku IP stack, although I don’t know which of the various “new” IP stacks that refers to.

I guess it’s also possible that one or both of these bugs has actually been fixed and just wasn’t updated in the ticket system.
