ok
i hope you can fix it.
I wanted to try it and tried to register on the website. But, everytime, it said my catpcha entry was wrong, even though it isnātā¦what am I doing wrong?
I canāt remember if the captcha was already there when I registered my account, but if it was,I didnāt have any issues with it.
Maybe check if your browser refuses cookies, that might break the session and therefore the captcha validation.
Thatās the only guess I can make here,as Iām not the server admin.
If the problem persists, you can ask @Wildman
Definitely not cookies, but Iāll figure it out (unless itās server issue)ā¦thanks!
Hmmā¦just tried it again, with no changes and it worked ![]()
well i just joined my user handle is whitepaperkat Iām probably going to be AFK though but feel free to message me anyway
I wonder if itās feasible to build a multi chat protocol server?
I think there used to be something that was multiprotocol I think it it started with a ph canāt remember the name of it itās on the tip of my tongue I tried compiling it once didnāt work you could either log in using an IRC client or XMPP or even a email client thereās also a dedicated one for itself but it got compromised and I also think they took the site down right around when matrix became a thing abandoned the whole project it also claimed to be multi-protocol and a synchronous
Xmpp has transparent bridges and transports, and there is a way to serve the same cqatroom on both xmpp, irc and matrix I think.
But usually you get only the minimal common set of features of the different protocols, and lots of wasted effort writing many clients for the same thing.
Wow,itās really amazing how many people are now using BeAIM ![]()
I just logged in again after a while and four chats popped up,two of them new people I didnāt chat with before.
I should really check my messages more often.
I didnāt work a lot on BeAIM lately, instead Iāve been doing some random bugfixes to Haiku itself, but seeing the userbase grow,I should probably focus more on it again and try to push some update soon.
You should have seen BeShare back in the day. It was crazy full of activity. Zip files flying back and forth. Chats back and forth with Be users. As we drift further from the roots of BeOS and into the Qt, GTK, foreign app realm, the interconnected BeOS / Haiku system is fading.
There are just not many users left. The ones who are still here are either still using BeShare, or using Vision, or using Renga and XMPP. The 3 are bridged together (and with Matrix) on the Haiku IRC channel.
Files donāt need to be distributed that way anymore, as we now have a package manager.
What does this have to do with Qt/GTK apps?
I still occasionally use BeShare Iām actually surprised at how fast it downloads things Even with my crappy internet
I just looked into BeShare again after a very long time.
Itās a really nice application, and itās a shame that it doesnāt seem actively developed anymore.
Itās quite different from BeAIM however.
While BeShare also supports private chats,Iād say itās primarily a filesharing utility, and BeAIM is primarily a instant messenger.
Not sure what package management has to do with the need for BeShare.
You can share all sorts of files on BeShare, not just software.
And you can use it to distribute .hpkg files for your apps,if you want to.
We have so many interesting old native BeOS apps with source at HaikuArchives,BeShare being just one of them, and it would be nice if they saw more love.
We need ported Qt (and sometimes even GTK ugh) apps to get stuff done on Haiku, without them the OS wouldnāt be viable for daily use.
But native apps are so much faster, better integrated, more lightweight,ā¦
I prefer native apps where available and hope that some find new maintainers some day.
I would like to see more native apps in general but unfortunately in this current climate youāre probably going to see more ported software
That right there is the problem. Instead of native BeOS / Haiku apps that leveraged the system, we are using third party apps. Sure, it gets the ājobā done. But they are not integrated into the ecosystem and therefore miss out on the magic. Iām not dissing the progress made on Haiku. Just saying that native apps showcase what makes Haiku, Haiku!
Why do you say that? What keeps people from writing Haiku apps?
because theres alot of apps out there that people just want ported
Personally I only have Qt installed for a few very specific apps like Cutter or Rizin. Maybe occasionally I need LibreOffice (once a year or so to hrepare a conference talk, if I decide to not use Multitalk). Everythings else I do is with native tools. The existence of ported apps doesnāt really prevent that from happening?
