Is it BeOS 5.1 Dano leaked code, not BeOS 4.x.
They are aware of it since we are in contact with them for a while to try to remove the “no derivatives” clause from the be book license, allowing us to merge that with the new documentation we’re writing.
And anyways, “no one will care” is no reason to break the law, wether you like that specific law or not.

I actually looked into the (horrible AI generated) video. Funny how this claims a victory of running “beos code […] 20 years later” on a modern machine. It actually compiled with modern gcc! Historical background, in case anyone’s interested.
There were two BeOS source code leaks at one time.
An incomplete (broken) archive from Dano 5.1 and a second complete one from BeOS 4.5-5.0.
The full archive contains everything, including the kernel, the Mac version, bootloaders for Macintosh, the Mac and x86 compiler, all servers, all soft, beide etc.
This version builds fine on x86 and, I believe, on PPC (internet has screenshot ppc build).
Github has broken source tree. This can be seen from the presence of gnumakefiles
So far, no one has built a publuc OS based on full source codes (except for using some of them in Zeta).
While it would be useful for a Macintosh.

What about PhOS? A Peek at PhOS: BeOS-Dan0’s Unapproved Brother – OSnews
PhOS, like the first releases of Zeta, is the Dano binaries (with some binary modification to change graphics I believe) + bits of Haiku + a heavily modified Tracker/Deskbar. Dano had decorators which made reskinning extensively possible without code.
It isn’t using leak code.
Funny that that old OSNews post links to a further post insisting that yellowTab had code (its likely that at the time, they didn’t) and was legal (Access eventually acted to show it wasn’t).
Also specifically denying the possibility that they had the well known leak code with all the important bits missing and had to try work around that, which is incredibly plausible in hindsight, at least for the pre-R1 Zeta releases.

Yes. Dano 5.1 more modern and use Bone for network. Leak source zip has NetServer subsystem.
I think Zeta started using modified sources when they changed the visual theme of the buttons, etc. I think it was release 1.21-1.5.
