BeMSN working?

I have Haiku running fine on my computer, no problems with most applications. But I can’t get BeMSN to work. I loaded BeMSN, and installed the lib file to the folder. I get the window for the email & password, but after entering information I get this error:

Loaded symbols for /boot/system/lib/libtextencoding.so
[tcsetpgrp failed in terminal_inferior: Invalid Argument]
[Switching to team /boot/apps/BeMSN/BeMSN (3099) thread receive DS (3118)]

Undefined command: "". Try "help".
(gdb) [Switching to team /boot/apps/BeMSN/BeMSN (3099) thread receive DS (3118)]

Does it work? I tried Jabber4Haiku but it won’t load. The two IM clients are the only apps I have installed myself.

Try Jabber from here ( very sure this version works )

BeMSN is very old and may not work with MSN network even if you had it working. Instead try out IM KIT:

Yes BeMSN was discontinued a long time ago, and was followed up by Bme, which I unfortunately have no time to work on (at this moment). Even if you could get BeMSN to run, the protocol it’s written for is MSPN 8, which is not supported on the MSN servers anymore (current protocol is something like MSPN 16). Best chances at the moment are indeed with the IM Kit.

Thanks guys,

I will go and try out IM Kit and also see if the other version of Jabber works for me. If I get an MSN client working, this makes Haiku more practical for casual web surfing and to test it out more.

I will report back to let you know they worked.

OK, I am having trouble installing IM kit.

I downloaded IM+Kit.zip, and it gives me im_kit_Zeta.zip and im_kit_R5bone.zip. Either one will output two folders called home & apps. But I’m worried that if I expand it into my HD, it would overwrite my current folders.

I go to the website listed in the link below and it mentions a install.sh that is supposed to put all components where they belong, but I can’t find the install.sh.

btw: the jabber link give me a jabber that is not multi-format. Seems to be only for jabber system. I needed MSN.

thanks

I believe that you can find the latest version of IM Kit at http://dev.osdrawer.net/projects/imkit/ . There is also a wiki that explains how to install it. I have not yet tried it myself, so I cannot say if/how it works. Let me know if you succeed in getting an MSN client working on Haiku

Use im_kit_R5bone. Unzipping does not overwrite folders, just adds to them. Unzip to /boot/.

I cannot promise if IM Kit will work or not today because I have not tested it. OSDrawer hosts IM Kit but I do not see any files listed. Meaning you would have to get the source and compile it yourself.

Right now, no other programs to really support MSN chat - you may have to wait for one.

might want to try this one:
